This shoes just work for me and I've consistently been able to purchase them at a discount of 40-75% off for several years now. I switched to these from the Inspire after getting orthotics, I had one injury after switching.

It's okay at most. I MUCH preferred the Wave Rider 16, but of course that's no longer available in common sizing.

College Division 3 running, 50 mile weeks on average, usually alternate between this shoe and mild support shoes

I wish that Mizuno wouldn't continue to change the models that we like. The Wave Rider 14 and younger versions were fantastic, but with the change to the 15's and on, I have been less happy. Why can't I buy 14's still? If they want to make a new shoe, then make a NEW shoe--don't change an already good thing.

Its my third pair, I very much like it and prefer it over the Rider 18.

Needed something very close to ASICS Gel-Speedstar, which was my favorite model shoe and one that I had used repeatedly for almost all of high school and college (used models 2-6 and loved them all). The Wave Rider 17 was the closest shoe I could find in terms of weight, fit and durability. Put about 1100 miles on my first pair, and plan on putting a similar amount on my current pair. Only downside is that the toe to heel drop is very large -- something like 18mm, I think. Otherwise a great shoe. Provides much needed cushioning for running on city sidewalks, on which I do most of my day-to-day mileage.

Overall, it has been great. I've switched back and forth between this shoe (with blue superfeet inserts or other similar inserts) and the wave inspires for 6 years now (also dabbling with a pair of Brooks Transcends, Brooks Ravennas, Wave Sayonaras, and Wave Elixirs). I had bad case of PTT during track season which caused me to go into a "find the right shoe to fix this problem" crisis. I finished off the season and took a solid month off from running before starting up training for cross country.

I decided to revert back to my old ways with the wave rider 16 and throwing in some inserts seeing as how I never has serious injuries with this combo before. I got an entire summer of training in (500 miles) and was injury free (Why did I switch from this shoe in the first place...). Once I got back to school, I decided to go with the Wave Rider 17's rather than spend hours trying to find a good deal on the 16's. I also began using the Adidas Adizero tempo 6's and Brooks Purecadences (Team issued and had lying around, respectively) for my faster workout days. The Tempo's have felt surprisingly great since I have been using them (64 miles currently on them), but the purecadences seemed to make my right shin hurt (they have very little mileage on them). I decided to drop them from my rotation, and now run in my Wave Rider 17's (107 miles now), the Tempos, and also trying out the Mizuno Evo Cursoris (only 1 or 2 times per week, trying to transition into minimalist running). The shin pain seems to have gone away, but I still feel some tenderness if I press down on it with my fingers.

Overall, the Wave Rider's have done well for me as an easy/long run shoe.
