Sha’Carri Richardson Gets Yellow Card Scare (not DQ) for Lane Violation in 200m at Olympic Track Trials

Friday evening in Eugene, America’s most popular track athlete, reigning world 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson, appeared to breeze to the finals of the 200 meters at the US Olympic Track & Field Trials by running 21.92 (equaling her personal best) to win her semifinal.

Turns out Sha’Carri and America were inches away from a disqualification disaster as she stepped on the inside lane line on the turn, and was given a yellow card warning. If she does it again in the final on Saturday evening, she will be disqualified.

Prior to November 1, 2021, any athlete stepping on the line in the 200m would have been immediately disqualified. However, the rules were amended to let athletes step on the line once per event. Now, Sha’Carri carries her yellow card into the final.
