2023 Footlocker Cross Country Championships Results – Drew Griffith and Elizabeth Leachman Win
By LetsRun.comThe 2023 Footlocker Cross Country Championships were held today at Balboa Park in San, Diego and it was a great day for the Pittsburgh, PA area in the boys race as Drew Griffith and Ryan Pajak went 1-2, reversing their order of finish from the NE regional as runners from the NE went 1-2-3. Both Griffith and Pajak are Notre Dame commits and PA state champs. Griffith, who won the 3A state title, goes to Butler HS – 40 minutes outside of Pittsburgh – while Pajak, the 2A state champ, goes to Ringgole HS in Pittsburgh.
In the girls race, 10th grader Elizabeth Leachman of Boerne, TX who earned a huge mid-race lead at NXN last week but faded to 15th, judged things correctly today and totally dominated, winning by 13.8 seconds after she caught early-leader Rachel Forsyth about 10 minutes into the race.
Both winners earned the highest Tully Speed ratings achieved by any HSer in 2023. Griffith got a 200 while Leachman got a 166 – although Bill Meilan often notes that Footlocker speed ratings tend to be higher.
