Jos Hermens: Kenenisa Bekele Has Recovered From An Injury While Training For Boston But Didn’t Have “Enough Time” To Do Well

When the B.A.A. announced on Tuesday that Kenenisa Bekele had withdrawn from the Boston Marathon (scheduled for April 18), the obvious next question was “What comes next for Kenenisa Bekele?”

Bekele turns 40 years old in June. He has accomplished virtually everything in the sport, but his goal for most of the last decade, the marathon world record, has eluded him despite narrow misses in Berlin in 2016 (2:03:03) and 2019 (2:01:41). The good news for Bekele fans is he plans on continuing to compete. Bekele’s agent Jos Hermens revealed to LetsRun.com that Bekele suffered an injury while training for Boston and while he has since recovered, he did not have “enough time to prepare for a good performance. [For his] next race after New York, he wants to be top [fitness] and show something special!”

Talk about Bekele’s future prospects on our world-famous fan forum/messageboard. MB: Jos Hermens: Bekele isn’t done. “[For his] next race, he wants to be top [fitness] and show something special”
