Selemon Barega brought the 10,000m gold back to Ethiopia, as Grant Fisher was 5th. There was controversy in the women's 5000m qualifying as the favorites, Sifan Hassan included, looked great but Francine Niysonsaba was DQd. In the mixed 4x400, the US was DQd and then reinstated.

Athing Mu looked great in the 800 qualifying, yet Hillary Bor said he “choked”.
