Wightman lived every miler's dream by outkicking the Olympic 1500 champ with 200 to go, becoming the first Brit to win the 1500 at Worlds since 1983. Wightman closed in 54.84, to Ingebrigtsen’s 55.24. In Tokyo, Jacob clocked 54.42 for the final 400m. You can watch the BBC broadcast and hear Steve Cram describe Wightman's win here.

Kipyegon sprinted away from silver medalist Gudaf Tsegay to win in 3:52.96. Laura Muir took bronze as Sinclaire Johnson was the top American in 6th.

El Bakkali was clearly the best in a mad sprint as his 8:25 winning time was easily the slowest ever at Worlds. Evan Jager was top American in 6th.
