Running Gets A "Non-Binary" Division

Brooklyn Marathon And Half-Marathon Is One Of The First Races To Offer Equal Prize Money For Non-Binary DivisionThe men's winner at the Brooklyn Half Marathon ran 1:01:47 and won $5,000. The non-binary winner ran 1:12:48 and also received $5000. In the full marathon, the men's winner won $5000 for 2:27:46 while the non-binary winner ran 2:35:17 and won $10,000 (an extra 5 grand as a NYC resident).

Runner's World: "Races Have Begun To Add Nonbinary Divisions. But Is That Enough?" Jake Caswell (who won $10,000 for winning the non-binary division at the Brooklyn Marathon) criticized the race's time standards, saying, "The way that they decided to do the nonbinary standards… situated in between the men and the women’s standards… kind of perpetuates the stereotype that nonbinary and gender nonconforming individuals fall within the spectrum."
