I was surprised to learn that Galen's entire house is set to 10,000 feet of altitude in the Mike Smith piece on the homepage. I knew athletes had altitude tents and I even remember the original NOP having an altitude room, but I had no idea that Rupp's entire house is set to 10,000 feet of altitude.
How easy is it to do something like this? What would it cost? I haven't heard of any other athletes doing this. Am I just out of the loop?
And then one thing I found interesting was Mike was full of praise for Galen staying in his house for much of the day. He said, "But then next: find me someone that’s willing to be in their house 18 hours a day for a decade. I mean, how long can you do that? I’m just saying, you’re talking about someone that is trying to intelligently structure this in a way that is going to have him at his very best."
I'm not that impressed a pro runner is in his house most of the day. Did others think this was kind of standard? Galen run's max 2 hours a day. Even if he cross trains 2 hours a day and runs 2 hours of errands that leaves 18 hours a day to be in your house. Probably not that different from any other full-time pro.
If he had only a tent or a room and was in there 18 hours a day I'd be impressed but I'm not that impressed he stays in his house that much when I think about it.
