What a stupid workout. Feel bad for these kids.
It's just funny....yelling "stay relaxed" as he looks like he's redlining.
Quit hating! Nico “The Truth” is the real deal. Can’t wait to see what he runs at Millrose
That kid's stride awesome even for a heel striker
Not hating on Nico, I’m sure he’s going to break all kinds of records this season.
Lucky for some of these guys they’re moving onto great college coaches who know what they’re doing.
Anyone who thinks Brosnan isn’t in this for his own personal agenda has their head in the sand.
When was this workout? That's tough a few days before a big race for anyone.
I have changed my mind. He will break 8 minutes. But he will have little upside in college because he is doing harder workouts than he will be doing.
I know some college guys who have run 8 flat with a 4:08-4:09 mile PR so if he can knock out 4:10 as his first practice rep, he can race pretty fast.
Yeah I was wondering.
Is it basically:
1600, 3' rest
800, 2' rest
1600, 3' rest
800, 2' rest
800
All at 3K pace...Wouldn't it be simpler just to do 5-6 x 1000 @3k pace with 2:30 rest?

10 days out from the race.
Some of it was at 7:50 pace.

What workout would make you feel good for them?

This made me laugh. We're such puśsies these days.
Probably anything that isn’t on a seemingly never ending chain of insanely hard workouts.
There will be convincing you though, since you seem to be in the same league as this coach.
I am okay with it if you want to hit your peak in high school.
What was Jakob Ingebrigtsen doing at that age ..? I’d give part of my left hand to have been in this kids shoes.

Stop hating on the guy. He’s a nine time all American at Adams st, rubs elbows with the greatest coaches in the country and has seen generations of high school kids responding to his training. He clearly knows what he’s doing.
Now, back to reality.
I thought his workouts were way too hard too often, but then they won nationals. What do I know? Seems to be working for them, and doesn't seem like a lot of kids are getting injured.
I can't believe they have a freshman running 65s laps for this workout. Jesus.
Jakob was and is sensibly building aerobic capacity through mileage, controlled tempo and threshold workouts, and working on leg speed through short sprints, with the only real anaerobic efforts in the early season being 200m hills. Controlling the amount of insanely hard sessions. He’s following the path of his siblings which means he’s setting himself up for a long career of international success.
NPHS does basically the opposite which is why sadly Nico Young, a great young US talent will never be a player on an international stage.
You can bookmark this and come back and shame me if I’m wrong but I’m guessing Brosnan’s plan is to be the next Salazar and once Nico is done at NAU and he runs out of talent (or everyone is hurt) at NP, he will try to start up a pro group with Nico as the centerpiece. He may even pull a Tinman and convince him at the last minute to not go to college and stick with him straight away.
