I've been wearing normal single-vision contact lenses for decades. But as I'm getting older (late 40s) I'm having a hard time seeing things up close, especially in dim lighting or when my eyes are tired/dry. I bit the bullet and bought some cheap reading glasses which help a bit, but I really don't want to be carrying around a set of reading glasses with me. My optometrist recently gave me some sample "multivision" contact lenses to try. Supposedly these have multiple prescriptions in the same lens, covering both near and distance vision, similar to progressive lenses in regular eyeglasses. (fwiw, I currently only have single-vision eyeglasses, although I have some progressive lens glasses on order).
Anyway... the doc said the multivision contacts aren't for everyone, and there can be an adjustment period, so don't judge them after wearing them only a few minutes. I've worn them for one day, and they were.. a little strange. Nothing (near or far) seemed to be fully in focus... something just seemed a little off. It's hard to explain, like vague blurriness that sometimes I noticed, sometimes I didn't notice. I know there's a tradeoff with this type of lens, and it won't be perfect for near and far vision, but more like a acceptable happy medium at all distances. They were comfortable and didn't give me a headache or anything, but after wearing them for 8+ hours, I'm not sure if they were better or worse at near+far vision, or if I was still adjusting to them.
Does anyone here have any experience with these types of contact lenses? If so, how long did it take for you to get adjusted to them? I have 5 more pairs of daily sample lenses to try. Thanks!
