I've always wondered this but will it really hurt my running if i smoke just 6-7 cigarettes a day? I used to smoke more than this but im cutting down.

YES!!!
it will help it by cutting down on how much you eat ie you will be skinnier, which means lighter which means faster.
yes, any smoke you are inhaling will negatively impact your lungs. That being said i used to smoke 1-3 cigarettes a day and was still running consistent sub 16 5k's. The effect is minimal, but it defiantly exists.
It certainly won't help!
Try vaping. It's a lot better for you, esp. Good with weed (in places where it's legal).
Maybe not your running but your health.
Stop smoking now!
As a former 1-2 pack-a-day smoker, who occasionally relapsed, I can say this is a BAD idea. First off, when you say 6-7 per day... it's probably more, or at least has easy potential to be more. You aren't going to win many races if you get cancer. Nor if you can't breathe well. Tar accumulates in lungs reducing respiratory efficiency as passages (alveoli) are clogged. But also smoke contains Carbon Monoxide, which when inhaled irrecoverably bond with hemoglobin, effectively making them useless for oxygen transport. It's like EPO in reverse. Then there's the social aspect... you're gonna stink, nobody will want to be around you. It's an ugly addiction - Once, I won a 10K race and was jonesing bad for a smoke after and snuck away - by the time I got back, I missed the entire awards ceremony.

If you're going from a pack a day to "only" 6 to 7, then it should actually HELP your running.

Sure. My credentials are: common sense and critical thinking.

Not at all. Studies show the deleterious effects of smoking don't kick in until you reach 11-12 a day.
There's really only one way to find out, OP.

I saw a study that said up to 5 cigarettes every other day showed no decreased lung function. The trick is taking that day off so the lungs can heal. If you smoke everyday they don’t have time to undo the trauma.
Smoking cigarettes affects lung capacity in the baddest way, I would try to reduce the quantity of cigarettes at least to 1-2 or to replace them with a vaping device (with something like a disposable electronic cigarette Sea Air Vape https://gypsyvapes.com/sea-disposable-vape-pods ).

Yes. You will die, and it won't be pretty. Smokers who just have a heart attack and drop dead are the lucky ones. Get emphysema or some other thing that causes COPD, and you might have to have your blood thinned on a regular basis because your body creates too many red blood cells. They run it out of your body and through a machine, clear out a lot of red blood cells and pump it back in. Nice. Plus, you might hack the last several years of your life, have trouble walking up a hill, etc. Why the hell would you smoke? Stop.
