Bizarre: USATF calls US indoors in NY a "success" but then announces it won't be going back in 2020 like it was supposed to

Was the meet really that bad? Why else would they do this and why now?

Not sure. Athletes seemed to love the venue from a practical standpoint -- warm up track down below, places outside to run.

I was there, crowd did not seem very engaged compared to, say, NCAAs at Hayward. But that's an unfair comparison. Seats were full of athlete families, other athletes, and coaches though, which was nice to see.

Seemed well-organized.

Hotels (what few there were) were in the middle of nowhere - very expensive and lack of food choices.

competition area was fine but lots of other things around the meet cost USATF big $$ so they need to move it. This is nothing that anybody local could not have told them.

No shock it is moving, while the meet was going on that weekend there was already word floating around that it was not going to be back on SI in 2020

The venue is excellent but it's in kind of a dead zone. Nothing's there, and those $17 bridge tolls are a killer.

That being said, why would the USATF care? Maybe there weren't posh enough accommodations and transportation for the cronies.

An article on silive claims the the "USATF made beyond exorbitant money demands from Ocean Breeze and the local organizing committee with a date ultimatum to comply by and the Parks said that was unacceptable."

Yeah but SI Live's source must be someone from Ocean Breeze. If there is some kind of contract dispute of course they're gonna blame USATF. I'm curious what USATF would say about dealing with Ocean Breeze.
