There have been some excellent threads detailing the training of Eliud Kipchoge/the Sang group as he prepares for London/Berlin. This one is ongoing, with Mzungo in Iten providing fantastic updates:

It seems clear that the method is consistently good workouts, with no singular workout seeming too crazy. The pattern is:
Tuesday: 10-15k of intervals at HM pace or slightly quicker, often as 1ks with short jogging rests
Thursday: 30-40k progressive long run to about marathon effort over undulating terrain
Saturday: 10-20k of intervals, similar to Tuesday’s but maybe a bit harder
The rest is filled in with easy doubles, and some singles, generally of 10-25k length.
My question for the LR braintrust: is there any reason all of us hobbyists shouldn’t adapt this schedule to our own marathon training. It doesn’t seem crazy to me to scale those weeks to my 1:12/2:34 hobby jogging body, adjusting pace and maybe cutting like 5-15% of workout volume.
Has anyone tried copying the GOAT’s training plans?
