He won the race even though his foot was a gnarly mess and then he came back and won the 5k the next day in his trainers.

Good to see they name the events correctly [3000 and 5000 meters], instead of 3k and 5k.
I “love” how there are people on Facebook who doubt that the foot photo is real or not.
Anyone wanna help a poor gorilla with the paywall?
I have a fairly strong stomach but that image is f*cking gross. How about a warning.

Sorry Snowflake.

Dude, yes. If it's on the track, it's X000. If it's on the road, then it's Xk. It drives me nuts when people say they ran a 5k when it was a track race. Um, no, no it wasn't. It was a 5000
They got distance right, but race was not in Cambridge.

milesplit seem to think it was. are they wrong? (genuine question)
https://ma.milesplit.com/meets/343410/results/628533/rawWhy did we not refer to a 4 lap race as 1760 yards then when tracks were 440 yards. 1000 meters is a kilometer so it would seem more appropriate to refer to it as a 5 kilometer than 5000 meters.

People referring to the exact same distance in two different ways drives you nuts? Quite possibly the most arbitrary detail to get mad about.

Technically, the track is in Allston, which is a Boston neighborhood. The Harvard main campus is in Cambridge, which is a separate city and across the river from Allston.
Technically yes, however it is literally like 600m from the track to the Cambridge side of the bridge so I think it's reasonable. I know you were just explaining someone else's comment but wanted to give this info too.

But...but...but...is it "5000m"? "5000 meters"? Just "5000"? Correctness dictates that we must adhere to the strictest of guidelines. We must sneer at anyone who, through a lack of education, misses the mark, and then we are duty-bound call the person out by posting our snobbish opinions of "the only way" on LetsRun.
I'm going out on a 10k training run...Or is it a 10000m run...or is it a 10000 meter run? Or just a 10000 run? Do I have to add commas, as in "10,000"?
Please, JamesTheAmateur, set the world straight, because you are an elite wordsmith/running terminology expert.
When you reply, also please tell me if I can wear Nike-logo white socks with my Adidas shoes? Certainly you can hold court over shoe/sock brand protocol!
Kieran’s foot looks like a job for the old Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team medics. Five minutes later they’d say, “Now do 50 more {miles} and we’ll see how that rode!”

Either is fine.
Just "5000"?
No.

Agreed.

If it's not a race on a track, the preferred nomencature is 10k or 10 kilometers.

For a 10,000m race, a comma or period should be used for legibility. This is unnecessary for shorter events.

I am not JamesTheAmateur, but am happy to help out.

Personally, I would choose a sock without visible logos, but unless you're sponsored by Adidas this is acceptable.
You're welcome.

Don't you mean 60 decameters?

This is the most arbitrary load of bull#@+& I have ever heard. 5k = 5000, 10k = 10,000. There is no agreement that one applies to track and one to off-road. Most track runners that run these events just refer to them as " the 5" and " the 10". As in, " I'm running the 5 this Saturday and the 10 next week"
