The marathon on a track was a meme on LetsRun.com for a while (the concept of someone getting lapped and coming back to win), but for the last few years the indoor marathon at the Armory has been a real thing.
You've got no excuse not to train for your marathon on a track debut because we're giving you 6+ months advance notice of the 2019 NYC Indoor Marathon.
Details on the 2019 race below which has $7,000 for the winner if they break the indoor world record (2:19:01 and 2:40:55).
The thing that struck me from the press release is the relay teams run slower than the individual winner. Surely we could get together a group of LRCers who should be able to blow away the individual winner? I'd like to see some pro groups see how fast they could go. Back in the day indoor marathons were spectator events.
I wonder if I could get in good enough shape to be on a team that could beat the men's winner. I doubt it. I just moved to NYC this month, but in the 8 years I lived in Fort Worth I never ran one step on a track there. But I've got no excuse now as I went to the Armory yesterday and Jonathan Schindel, the co-president, gave me an Armory card so I can train there this winter. Best/worst gift I could ever receive as I now have no excuse not to train.
I'm designating the Amory the official local indoor track of LetsRun.com as it's right on my subway line.
