Kipruto won the Diamond League 3000m Steeplechase with only one shoe.
If I had to choose one, it would be the Saucony Freedom with the insole removed.
That was the most impressive thing I've seen in a long time on the track. For sure this year.
Conseslu Kipruto lost his shoe on lap #2 of the steeplechase but outsprinted El Bakkali to win the steeple in 8:10.
Coming into the final water barrier, he hurdled it barefoot, then came off the final barrier still behind but just wanted it a bit more. I hate that analogy in sport but he was so determined. He wasn't losing today and took home the $50,000.
What a run. If anyone has seen anything more impressive of late, let me know.
Won not only on one shoe, but also on pure hate. No way was he letting that doper beat him.
Can we get a like button for posts?
It blows my mind that you could win a race in the steeple with one shoe. Do you know how much it would hurt to land on the bare foot?

Christopher Koskei is laughing at this thread.
A few questions about the steeple.
What was El Baakali crying about afterwards? Was he pain from the near fall with 500 to go or was he upset he lost?
Why would Jager let the pace dawdle? Doesn't he know he's never going to beat those guys in a 400 sprint?Haven't we seen that time and again?
Kipruto is a genius. Nike will start selling just one shoe and charging full price.

Frustrated at the loss. Happened last year as well. Look at the slow-mo replay of the finish of last year’s final when Conseslus outkicked him in the last few steps.
Those tracks are nice and soft. You can bett that running with one shoe isn't as uncomfortable as the brojos make it seem.

This is pretty far down the list of amazing, never-before-seen events suffered by those who then amazingly won. Bikila didn't even WEAR shoes.
And considering the time, who cares, really?
Like said above, jumping the barriers at high speed barefoot is hazardous, running barefoot isn't. I'm pretty sure he intentionally got rid of the shoe because it was untied and loose.
That was a really smart race.

"Do your homework". "Do your homework"? Right, because you are saying that because Chris Kosgei used to run the steeplechase barefoot back in the mid 90's that somehow what Kipruto did tonight wasn't really that special. Got it.
But of course that would be a completely moronic assertion because we all realize there is a huge difference between being accustomed to running barefooted and having it accidentally happen to you midway during a race. We also realize that once one shoe comes off it's probably better for both to come off due to simple balance/underfoot properties that get completely messed up when say you lose a shoe half-way through a race.
Brother your intelligence level (lack thereof) is sadly a little beyond some "homework". Flaming twit.

If Kipruto is experienced running barefoot...not unheard of...it isn't a big deal.
IMO El Bakkali had the win, he underesimated Kipruto's kick because he lost his shoe and started his long sprint later than he should have. I think that over all, El Bakkali and Jaeger are better hurdlers (you could see how much easier they hurdle thanks to their size and their strength) and on a right day, can be a threat to the WR, but Kipruto's kick is just too good, the guy runs a 47sec 400m, he could probably do great in the 1500 and the 800, and I think he should because he won everything in the 3000mH

Two reasons :
- he tripped before the bell, Kipruto was right behind him and had to slow down too.
- he didn't wanted to go home devastated but Kipruto was right ahead of him.
