Finally someone asked to look at a balance sheet
Lananna has wings clipped. USATF will now award Eugene with the 2020 Trials. USATF Board flexes its muscles and ‘fixes’ the situation.
Big news. Is he going to try and get back usatf presidency?
Is he going to be indicted?
Big news. Is he going to try and get back usatf presidency? Ok. I don't understand this. When I first read the Ken Goe article, I read this.
Goe wrote:
The source said Lananna wants to devote all his energy toward ensuring the 2021 World Outdoor Championships are successful, and they be used to help ignite national interest in the sport.
So I assumed Lanana was resigning from TrackTown so he could get rid of his TrackTown USA conflicts of interest that USATF complained about. However, now Goe has updated his article and Reuters and the Register Guard have come out with articles saying Lananna has resigned from the 2021.
Can someone tell me this how this makes sense?

How does one devote their energy to making 2021 sucessful when you aren't working on 2021 any more?
The Reuters article led with the 2021 resignation: "Vin Lananna resigned as chair of Oregon’s 2021 world athletics championships on Tuesday saying he wanted to devote more of his time to focus on the future of the sport in the United States."
Here is the Reuters article:

So as its understood , TrackTown as an organization is almost bankrupt with Vin drawing a large six figure salary contributing to its downfall. He enjoying being patted on the back for securing the world champs but is under investigation by the DOJ on how he secured the champs.
Maybe Nike has decided to push him aside with the possibility of DOJ findings , possible audit of other accounts. Very Trumpish to get caught , smile and deny, claim health and to busy as excuses to bow out before the other shoe falls.
Lets hope he's exposed for the man he really is.
Maybe he’s getting ready to resume the head coach job when Robert Johnson departs Oregon. Maybe he’s eliminating all conflicts of interest in order to wage a campaign to resume his USATF presidency. Maybe he’s moving to Seattle to make it tracktown North Seattle.
Interesting development. That does seem like too many roles for one person. I had no idea that he still held a position at U of O. I wonder how he plans to looks towards the future of track and field by leveraging the 2021 Worlds while stepping down from the 2021 Worlds committee. Perhaps if he regains his role as USATF president?
Didn't Lananna ( or TrackTownSummerSeries group) suspend or discontinue those domestic meets?
Is bringing that series back part of his goal of promoting T&F in The USA?

Every part of Vins planning is how to gain wealth. The so called all truism of helping the sport is hogwash. If track town series would have gained financial support in which he would have derived some sort of payment it would be alive.
Promoting T&F is a part of his con of doing good, the con is Ill consult you to help gain access and charge you a fee when you get funding.
I don't think people realize Vin could go to jail. This is a federal investigation tied to international violations. The DOJ would not would initiate the investigation without credible evidence of wrong doing.

Vin was just one person interviewed in the investigation (an investigation that covers many things, not just the 2021 World Champs awarding.) He was not the target of the investigation. Has anyone at USATF been interviewed yet? Seems like they probably will be at some point too.
Who is dumb enough to think that Vin bribed Lamine Diack?
Vin does OK financially, but he doesn't have the kind of money, personally, to get Diack's attention. Neither does TrackTown. Neither does USATF.
If you are some rich person who really really wants to see the World Champs happen, and you're willing to bribe Diack to make it happen, Vin isn't the guy you send to do that job. Some of you seem to think Vin is a sketchy character, but his experience is primarily domestic, and that type of bribery is neither acceptable nor common in the United States.
I think if you are someone that wealthy, who is comfortable bribing someone like Diack, you send someone who has much more experience with international dealings to do the actual bribery. Then you tell Vin, hey go talk to Diack now. He wants to meet with you. It creates a storyline that Vin persuaded Diack.
And then when the ish hits the fan, you pull the strings to throw Vin under the bus. Maybe that was part of the deal with Diack, that Diack will claim Vin gave him the money.
I just don't think Vin actually did it. If I'm a rich evil track overlord, I don't send Vin in to a job like that. I have someone different in mind, someone who has probably bribed lots of people over the years.

VL will most certainly attempt to regain the presidency of USATF. If he states he wants to focus his goals on making a large impact in the sport, it is through USATF. Oregon21 is an amazing thing, but in the end it is just a track meet that will come and go. Only through the federation can change occur to improve the sport across the entire country. It isn't enough for a bunch of elderly white fans in Eugene to carry the sport. We must ignite excitement and interests in cities like LA, Dallas, Orlando, Atlanta, Chicago, and many others. We must increase the membership of USATF. We must enhance the federation's collaboration with likeminded organizations, such as RunningUSA, USTFCCCA, NYRR, etc. The National Office must continue to attract the best talent and be customer/member centric. We must invest in our youth and development athletes while maximizing our support to our elites. We must track and monitor metrics to determine the effectiveness of our programs to ensure we are getting the returns that are expected. We must be good citizens of the sport by supporting programs that enhance our social impact, such as Para and Masters. We must be inclusive by incorporating initiatives such as the Pride Games and Warrior Games.
This can't be done alone and we need a visionary leader to drive the sport forward.
Just curious if anyone knows exactly what it is Lananna does at U of O to command such a large salary? He doesn’t seem to have any direct responsibilities, for example wasn’t involved in the hiring of their new distance coach. And yet he’s making $500,000 per year. WTF?
Good work if you can get it wrote:

He is a good friend of Phil Knight.
I think the article was a bit unclear but the gist of it is that Vin is a) worn out b) hamstrung by too many obligations and c) currently subject to the usatf mutiny. As a result, he has cleared the table a bit and has re-focused to the big picture of the sport's well-being in the years after 2021.
Frankly I am surprised he has taken on so much since stepping down was head coach at Oregon. He had a significant health scare in 2010 and if anything added more onto his plate afterwards.

WITCH HUNT!!! FAKE NEWS!!! ABSOLUTELY NO COLLUSION!!! LAMINE DIACK AND SEB COE ARE GREAT GUYS. VERY HONEST. IT IS SAD HOW PEOPLE ARE TREATING THEM AND VIN. MAYBE THERE WASN'T A BRIBE? MAYBE SOME 400 POUND TRACK FAN SITTING ON HIS BED IN NEW JERSEY DID THIS? I ASKED VIN IF HE DID ANYTHING WRONG AND HE SAID, "NO!". I BELIEVE HIM. NO CORRUPTION IN TRACK AND FIELD! IT IS UNPRESIDENTED.
SAD. NO COLLUSION!
Am I doing this right?
Wow, you are a bit out of touch with the the sport of international athletics and its deep underbelly of corruption. Its been around a long time and layers across all sports including Olympics.
As an athlete you hear rumors and speculation but your never really in the mix. Attending national conventions or hearing something from an agent is like thinking your drunk because you sat in a bar.
This is not about the bag man, its about what we call a fixer, introductions , possibilities , opportunities with a little help we can do anything. They speak well, present well ideal for the role.
This has nothing to do with ones own personal money to gain the event, it never does, its all the other things that come with big events. This is when they do a forensic financial audit of individuals and companies that have contracts with the event. Who got paid and what are their relationships, we call it connecting the dots.
An investigation may start with a single item to get it started and gain access but as the investigation evolves other things come into play as additional individuals and their involvement . You follow the leads and evidence as it presents itself. Its never just one person it will be several people who will fall with various charges for each ones specific involvement.
Remember connect the dots and look for individuals who are common elements over a period of time.
