It is official Des is running New York. No word out on Shalane defending her title, but barring retirement that would be expected.

Americans just refuse to run London or Berlin. So no top american is going to run Berlin or London?
Oh, How I miss kastor and hall. Props to Cragg for running Tokyo, though.
If it's not a torrential downpour and 30mph winds then she has no chance. It will be interesting to see how it goes without a Coach.

Americans make more money by running American marathons.

This ^^ and Americans only run 2 marathons a year so money is a lot more crucial than seen in track. Top americans could be losing over 50k/marathon in appearance fees for american marathons vs london/berlin where prize money is more geared.
Desi will probably never beat her PR time and she doesn't excel on flat competitive courses like London or Berlin, so NYC seems like the obviously smart choice for her. Feigning a bit of a friendly rivalry here between her and Shalane could help them both get some extra attention and money.

What are you talking about? She ran Berlin in 2013.

I'm talking 2018!
No top americans are running in london and berlin..... I never said she has never run Berlin.

Also, every year it is the same with her Boston/ new york.....boston/chicago ....rinse and repeat.
You would think the focus would be to do 1 national race and 1 international race per year........

And here I thought DL ran Berlin. I must be confused...

in 2013. ....We are talking 2018. Most top american runners have committed to either Chicago/New York....
Cragg just recently ran Tokyo.
And As far as Linden goes, she has been in the marathon game for a long time now, with only one international marathon under her belt? Come on. She has been marathoning since 2008.
I'm just saying.. Why do Americans duck the true top marathons??
The real reason is so she does not have to go head to head with Hasay, who will kick her butt.
Without the bad weather, she would have never won.
Facts are facts. It's the only reason she won.

Not totally correct. Berlin recruits FAST runners. She ain't fast and she knows it. Gonna lose in NYC.

Neither Hall nor Kastor ever ran Berlin. Flanagan did. Of course, letsrun engaged in lots of eye-rolling at her attempt on the American record and said that Berlin was the weakest fall marathon (Chicago and New York being much tougher), so it's pretty clear that you can't win with the LR peanut gallery. Run Berlin and you are chasing a fast time but avoiding the competition. Run Chicago and you are scared to test yourself on a fast course.
Why would Desi run Berlin (or London)? They don't fit her strengths. She's capable of PRing at Chicago and she's (probably) not capable of running sub 2:20, so why would she run Berlin? A chance at a bigger PR? Really?
It's hard to judge Desi for choosing NY, or Boston, when you have no idea what the other races were/are offering for appearance fees, etc... Until we know specifically how much was put on the table from each for her to choose, you cannot say she is ducking anyone.

Didn't Desi run Berlin in 2013? I kinda remember her running it.

Yeah, he's wrong, she ran in 2013 as I finished about 2 minutes in front of her. I remember it well. Scorpion is wrong.
