Just checking the IAAF rankings for this year. I know it's early days in the season, but only one Moroccan has broken 3:40 so far - Abdelaati IGUIDER 3:36, who is 31 and appears to be in the twilight of his career (didn't run faster all last season).
As comparison, 10 Americans have so far broken 3:40, 10 Australians (obviously aided by having their summer seaon already), 9 Kenyans, 5 Brits, 3 Ethiopians, and 2 Mexicans. Even an Indian and a Japanese runner have gone faster than the fastest Moroccan!!!
As I said, Iguider appears to be finished, and is Makhloufi ever coming back? He's 30 and been out since 2016, and I guess they were both age cheats anyway so probably older.
What happened to Moroccan middle-distance talent?
