Is it reasonable and possible to maintain until March? Then I presume, peak again for outdoor Nats?
Peaked too soon. He’ll be lucky to break 2 minutes by February.
I wouldn’t be surprise . Another student from Kenya , I assume .
Isaiah Harris would like a word.
But yes, Saruni is scary good. Might have beaten Emmanuel Korir at NCAA outdoors if not for an unfortunate fall.

very very very unlikely
only chance wouda been if Korir was still in recovery mode from injury in early indoor season after the 600iWR which kept him out for about a month
he certainly had no chance when outdoors started when Korir was running such as 1'43-high off huge -ve splits

FTFY
I think I remember him racing in a Nike pro singlet at the Kenyan trials last year?
The man is great. Earned a spot at worlds (that kenya did not honor) so he should be on top of the NCAA right now. Anyone know his outdoor PR? 1:45?

in the interview he gave after the 2017 NCAA (linked to above) he said he had improved from 1:46 to 1:43.
Cheers.

His outdoor PR is 1:44.61 from last year's Kenyan Trials. And yes, it was an absolute farce that he wasn't in London last year. Kenya could have sent four guys (with him being the fourth) and only entered three.
Braizer ran his 1:45.9x during that same weekend two years ago and finished out with the record in outdoors so its possible. He also had some downtime from injury to recoup a little during that period which probably helped him with the length of the season.

To real runners a 1:46 800 time is nothing to care about. When you are 1:42-1:43 capable then a 1:46 is a jog in the park.
You don’t know real runners wrote:

I care about jogging in the park, so I also care about a 1:46 800.
Pretty sure that (handing a person a title off an early season time) is not how it works or should work.
If it did then let's save a lot of money and just have everyone run a TT and submit times.
Many of you are getting Saruni mixed up with korir.
Korir is the utep runner that ran in a Nike pro singlet at the Kenyan trials
Korir is the one that ran 1:43 last outdoor season(saruni 1:44)
Saruni is the one that just open his indoor season with a 1:45.
well, ...other Utep Kenyan,
Here is the video of the Kenyan trials showing both Korir and Saruni in Pro Nike singlets! Korir on lane 6 and Saruni on lane 8!
And that means Saruni is not eligible for NCAA just like Korir because both turned Pro. However it is only Korir who raced Pro in Europe(Diamond League) as he was assured of a spot in the Kenyan team but Saruni was still fighting for a spot in the Kenyan world champs and when finally he was cut off, he chose to fly back to the USA to continue with his studies until the following season.
clear violation of NCAA rules.
Will anything be done about it?
UTEP...

Not a violation. Multiple top tier athletes have worn the pro Nike singlets in competition just out of convenience. Sammy Watson (Texas A&M) and Abraham Alvarado (BYU) are just two to name. Paul Ereng(UTEP Head Coach) explicitly stated SARUNI WASN’T turning pro while KORIR WAS.
Kenya gave him the singlet and he will win the NCAA meet by a hair over Harris.
