How do people qualify for the NXN meet if they're from California? I know it's something to do with the state meet but I am not entirely sure.

I attended the 2017 state meet and can explain this.
California is large enough and competitive enough that the state meet has become a qualifier for NXN. The top times can qualify individually and team-wise.
Top 5 individual guys and girls times qualify.
Top 2-3 teams qualify.
These are not specific to division, they're comparing top times overall at the meet Saturday. Claudia lane qualifies not because she won d4 but because she was the #1 time overall that day for example.
What if the 5th fastest time opts for Footlocker instead of NXN. Does the 6th fastest time get the chance to go to NXN?
Yup, just like that. That's how Liam Anderson got to NXN last year

But what if weather conditions change between races? Not very fair. Texas has to go to NXN South despite being the only teams that ever qualify from the region. Makes no sense, especially when the #1 boys team (state champs) has a bad race at nxn south and doesn't qualify....
First of all, you have to recognize how California, despite being the most populated state, does not have its own NXR qualifier. Also, weather is always going to be a factor in races. And just as much as you could go to NXR South, you could go to any other qualifier which produces the same issue as if Cali didn't have state times go.
No offense but Heartland And Midwest must collapse together and New York must collapse into Northeast. Northeast is way watered down and South is overcrowded.

Totally agree. It is laughable. Having FL NE, NXR NE, NXR NY and FL South all on the same day has decimated the region.
Is it the top five fastest that are not a member of a team that has already qualified?
