They should have to judge the pace themselves, Adebe Bikila never got a watch. If he knows the exact pace to run whilst Ghirmay Ghebreslassie etc doesn't I think that's a big advantage. He will never run too slow or waste energy.

No it's fine. All runners except some elites have watches. We want to see who has the best endurance and if they need a watch to reach their potential. Furthermore they have pacers so it defeats the point
So then they should just follow Bekele since he'll know the pace.
They should ban watches from major races (joking). Can you imagine being in the midst of dozen of hobby-joggers with their watches alerting them to their pace every mile or whatever they have the watch set for? I was running with a guy during a trail run the other day. His watch was annoying as heck. I ended up flying an aid station just to gap him and leave that noise behind.
Since Bekele nearly broke the WR last time, how come there is no buzz about this marathon? People won't shut up about the Kipchoge sub 2 stunt, but they can't bother with something real.
Agree with all posters and to the last poster, I was thinking the same I can't wait for tomorrow, I'm excited like a kid at Christmas to see what Bekele will do.
Another person trying to be the dumbest here
It's not a time trial. If it was, Des would have won Boston leading off the front. Flanagan did the same thing every race too and always got caught.
The runners who sit back, draft, and pull ahead later have a huge advantage.
Bekele's pretty dominant. He might be able to pull off time trialing front running the entire race. But I doubt it.
Are there rabbits with the same watches?
Because the London course is SLOW compared to Berlin/Dubai.

There might not be a thousand threads on here, but there's buzz.
Bekele, Ghebreselassie, Lilisa, Keitany, Kiplagat, Dibaba, Cheruiyot. It's going to be spectacular. London is cool and still and ready.

Slower than Boston too
Special watch?
I have a 40$ Casio, I set the timer to beep according to the pace I want, so every time it beeps I have to cover a 1k. They also have signs at each k in the marathons.
No need for pacemakers, then?
Seriously, what would the running world do if Bekele Showed up and ran Sub 2 in London Tomorrow..?
What is the watch brand? Timex? Casio?
The course record is 2:03:05
Any free internet feeds?
He should be forced to not look at the large clock on the lead vehicle just ahead of him

freak out about doping of course. That's why people want records broken
Having a cool watch isn't gonna do anything. If he's feeling good he's feeling good, if he's running like crap a watch isn't gonna somehow change that. Some of you guys are so anal it's hilarious.
