Am I the only one not that impressed? He's run 3:42 and is 19, that Ingerbritsen kid did the same at 15...

It's not July, man. What would have been the minimum to mag's you impressed in his first race since track season?
..Pearson ran 13:32 FTW
Yea, I'm not sure he is worth the money. Too much hype.
He wasn't even the top college kid in the race.
It's a solid opener, but for a 3:57 miler who sees himself as a 5k type, he just shows that he's not ready to go pro. He can compete on the college side. He's not ready for the pro's.

Lol with 0 info about training or effort that's quite a claim..
How many 19 year old college kids beat him in the race?

I went up to Idaho and watched Slagowski run that solo sub 4:00 on a rain soaked track. Everyone had an umbrella up as it was coming down and windy. That kid looked amazing. No one even knows his name.
Slagowski didn't run that sub-4 in Idaho.
This is an encouraging run for Hunter--a 30 second PR in a Turkey trot. Let's give him a full indoor and outdoor season before we go crazy.
Well, he can't compete on the college side if he has no NCAA eligibility so not not sure what you even mean by this. It was his first race since June...in fact, it was his first road race EVER. It was a 24 SECOND PR. He spent the better part of the summer recovering from Lyme disease. This kid has successfully raced against pros, but I guess most of the LR crew think he's a failure if he isn't instantly beating ALL the pros. This board drives me crazy.
Sorry meant Portland.

Why'd you add the qualifier to a statement I didn't make? Age doesn't matter on the Pro scene. No one says Mary Cain's only 19- just wait, anymore.
He ran well for himself. I'm not denying that. I'm simply saying that he shouldn't have gone Pro. He got beat by other collegians is all I stated. If you aren't ready to compete against the big guys, why make the jump to do so?
You make the jump because he was never going to get a better deal, and the whole reason he'd go to college was to go pro. A high schooler running 3:57 is a better prospect than a college freshman running 3:54. I doubt Hunter thinks he's too good for college; it just worked out this way.
Couldn't answer the question. I knew that you wouldn't.

Please. He is the most hyped kid on this website.
Chris Derrick ran faster than that in high school.

He should be able to run 13:56 any day of the week.
Jebeezus!
1. For all intents and purposes, he's a college freshman. We should be comparing his performances to Ratcliffe's, not to Ryan Hill's.
"But he's a professional," the trolls will gripe. "He should be running super fast all the time, since he has an Adidas contract, and because I say so!"
Trolls, the good people at Adidas are not foolish. They recognize that Hunter is not yet strong enough to compete with the best post-collegiate talent in the country.
In fact, that's why they've signed him to a ten-year contract. He's a long-term investment. When (or if) Hunter comes into his own, their commitment will pay dividends. They may have already bought the marketing rights to the "Next Great American Distance Runner."
2. On the professional calendar, Fall and early Winter are down periods. Hunter is nowhere near his peak.
I don't hear anybody crucifying Donn Cabral for running a just-ok race over at Manchester today. The same level of scrutiny should apply to Hunter.
