Can he finally live up to 17 years of expectations on one of the biggest stages for the win?

3rd place
Not a very strong field.
Don't look at PBs that took place longer than 18 months ago as they are useless.
I just want to see him get a good time, it'll be encouraging for him and help him to move forward in the distance; who knows though he might be able to win, I just think him finishing and running a solid time would be really great wether he wins or not.
Reading a book where Bill Rodgers described the NYC course in the 1970s as being "urban cross country". Roads probably are better now, but Ritz is strong with the XC.

I doubt it. Likely another poor performance or DNF. If this were a half marathon, I'd say he'd crush it, but just going based off his marathon performance record, he almost always under performs. Chicago was the one exception. I doubt New York 2016 will be the second. Hope I'm wrong though.
Top 3 finish- 2:09:33

Beijing 2008 was a great performance.
Men's Course Record Geoffrey Mutai 2011 - 2:05:06
Why is this idiot still doing marathons? His best event is the 5k. 12:56 is eons better than 2:07 or 27:22.

Because this idiot gets paid a lot of money to run marathons.

How much?
30K and it will be doubled to 60K if he finishes in the top 3. A DNF and he forfits all but 5K.

We break down Ritz's chances (and the other American men) here:

Thanks for the podcast link. The more I hear from Ritz, the more I like him. Go Ritz.
Does NYMarathon pay appearance fees to US runners?
If so who is getting them and how much?
Is there a list of US runners and their shoe/clothing sponsors anywhere?

Meh, yeah he was the top american and the time was OK, but he still had to stop and walk due to calf cramping if I recall correctly. His 2:07 from Chicago was the only marathon where he ran a decent time compared to his other distance PRs.

On top of prize money?
How are you privy to this number?

Yep, I always loved him. He was my idol growing up when I was running in high school. Need to listen to that podcast.
Just like Bekele is probably my favorite international runner, Ritz was always my favorite domestic guy.
