hey hey, c'mon guys this kid needs help. lets answer his question ok?! sorry i dn't have an aswer kid. you mentioned earlier that you've tried all different shoes, and orthodics, and you still have pain???
well if the pain has been around for a bit and pretty severe, and it is localized, doesn't go up and down the shin...get it checked out to make sure not a stress fracture.
Ice a lot after running to keep inflammation down. May have to take some rest. Maybe get some "sleeves" , which soccer players use to hold their shinguards in place. The compression may help if you have to run. I used that when I was in high school and had shin splints.
get better dude
try and get a hold of a thing called "The BOb". it is like a stretchboard that you rock back and foward. Doing this strengthens the supporting muscles and your legs will eventually be able to cope with the pounding of running on the roads. Mine were pretty bad, but after 2-3 weeks of using "The Bob" they have fully cleared up.
also, when stretching your calves. try turning your toes inward and try and press out with you knee. Shin splints often come from sinking in on your foot strike. If you are really tight on the outer calf, then you have no option but to sink in. So try and get better flexibility on your outer calf then you have a better chance of getting the correct foot strike when running.
I think the most important thing is that you have to be aware of your foot stike when running and do not become lazy. concentrate on your form and stay strong on your forefoot, do not let yourself sink in. after a while you will get used to this. remember, running is a skill, you must practice your form just like a tennis player does.
