It'll probably kill you. Look out.
no. just dont get wasted two or more times a week
not as long as you get up the next morning and run.
Alcohol is a drug. You can use the drug however you choose. You can be adrug abuser or you can be a social drug user, you make the call.
I was a wrestler in university. I had my best ever tournament finish the morning after a wicked bender. I think something about the pain and disorientation of the hangover made me really really cranky.
I was having a late lunch last year (sushi) and had a couple of beers to wash it down. It was a big race weekend in town. I was coming off a lengthy injury and planned to sit out, and maybe watch some of the races finish. But seeing all the runners walk around town got my feet itchy, so I signed up later that afternoon for the 10K (I was WAY too undertrained for the marathon or half). I hit my PB that evening at 6, about four hours after downing a couple of pints.
Now don't try any of this at home, kids. I'm a full grown adult, so I know what I'm doing. Just say no...
WOW PETE!! That is an incredible story. A grown man who uses drugs (socially only of course) goes out and runs a PR 4 hours after sushi. FASCINATING. Let me tell you about the one time that I was coming down from heroin and I had the best sex ever.... with your mom.
That wasn't very nice Archie. What would Edith think?
I don't think I said anything about drugs. Just beer.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... ...beer!
Now remember, kids, my running achievements rate pretty close to the back of the letsrun pack. It's quite possible there's a cause-effect linkage here. If you want to grow up to be an elite runner, look elsewhere for a role model, and stay away from the beer. As I said before, just say no.
All I want to do is drink beer and train like an animal.

Wasn't that Rod Dixon?
beer within limits will not hurt....but beer within normal limits is not fun!
I stayed away from drinking as a senior in college and had the best seasons of my college career. But like someone else mentioned, I often did not get out for Sunday runs due to hangovers. I think as long as you stay hydrated after a night of drinking and get in the workouts and long runs it won't hurt you.
By the way - What is a wicked bender?
All I want to do is drink beer and train like an animal.
Shoot, I thought it was the Dina. No way could Rono or Dixon handle the Wednesday Night Beef and Brew Ha Ha!

I had two parts of the puzzle mastered. Now if I just had that 3rd part, Talent, I could have been a contender!
translation:
wicked bender = night out drinking too much
This was a paid public service announcement
