British athlete with doping allegations. EPO in Olympics from Kenya.
The doctor treated up to 5o athletes...reports say he is now under arrest.
More than the past undercover video of doctors doping anonymous athletes, this 8 minute video includes higher caliber athletes, higher profile coaches, and more specific identities.
- An anonymous coach of an Olympic Gold medalist admits to doping athletes
- EPO medical waste found at at HATC in Iten, European training camp
- Professional pacer buys doping products, shares information with undercover reporters
- Doctor (Joseph Mwangi) admitting to undercover reporters to doping 3 British athletes.
- Another doctor (don't know how to spell his name) furnishes documentation of blood tests regarding the monitored doping of a British athlete.
It should be said that Sunday Times has done this, undercover video, before, and has been accused of entrapment. Mustafa Mohamed was approached but denied their proposition, and then reported those agents/coaches (the reporters) to authorities. But I think this episode points to the fact that an athlete with integrity will always do the right thing, just like Mohamed did in this case by reporting those who offered him doping.
Still just amateurs doping? Still just nefarious doctors affecting C- level athletes with nandrolone?
Another interesting point, the doctor recommends injecting EPO into the vein, rather than subcutaneously. This is the method now preferred, microdoses of 400-500 units every night, or every other night, rather than large doses of 3000-4000 units every few days.
The doctors have been arrested:http://www.mediamaxnetwork.co.ke/people-daily/234414/two-held-in-police-custody-over-doping/
Does anyone with more knowledge know the British athletes that are training, or had been training, in Kenya this season? I know UK athletics have been sending a bunch, but someone else here might have a more concise list.
Some dodgy 5k/10k splits from a British women this year. Think her friend likes to cycle too 😉

I realize my first post said that the coach spoke about doping the Gold Medalist. After listening again, he is a coach of a gold medalist who spoke about other athlete's doping. But I already made the list, so...

Just doctors saying vague things that fit his overall narative.
There are details. The two named doctors have been arrested, and currently being investigated (along with the Rosas, who are still in custody).
Remember, NADOs can sanction athletes from other federations. Presumably, evidence from those two doctors and Seppelt on the British athletes, for example, could be used to draw a sanction. But that is a long and drawn out process. Maybe Kenyan authorities have an interest in putting a foot down on foreign athletes doping, to satisfy the public image of being tough, while not affecting their own athletes' chances.
Hopefully WADA, IAAF, and British athletics/anti-doping get to the bottom of it and athletes names will get released sooner or later.
Sensational!

.
Good point. No details in the doc but good news that the doctors have been doped and hopefully the British athlete has been reported to the correct people.
The 'Coach' of the Olympic Gold Medalist part was worthless without his ID. He could have been absolutely anything and he gave no concrete information only speculation.
The bits with Freddy (I know him - basically anyone white who has been to Iten knows him!) were worthless in real terms - it just showed that you can buy EPO in Eldoret which is nothing new or even a big deal. They used Freddy to buy that stuff because he hangs out with all the Brits in Iten (and by hangs out I mean won't leave alone - he's a pain in the arse constantly begging for shoes/T Shirts.
I doubt Freddy knew the doctor - he doesn't know anyone, and he's not a professional pacer he's a professional annoyance who tags along for every run he can in the hope he might get a free lunch out of it!
Far more likely that Seppelt found the doctor then staged the introduction from Freddy.
Why Freddy? Because he is 'associated' to so many foreign runners (and will do anything for a few shillings)
Very devious but rather clever journalism.
I have a hard time believing that Seppelts motives are to clean up the sport rather than to make a name for himself but if this leads to some of the dodgy doctors being arrested then that is a fantastic step forward!

Haha. Maybe Freddy tricked Hajo and friends and they believed it. Obviously you are more on the in than most of us so I don't doubt you.

Thanks for the info.
As for the brit athlete with blood work in the video..... they referred to them as "He".
Any idea who "he" might be?

My thread about this lady got deleted.
She PB'd by another 20 seconds the other day in the European champs. Came 7th, over 25 seconds behind the winner and two places behind Jo Pavey who is 42.
Real doper indeed. Kinda just shows she is at a low level in an incredibly uncompetitive event, don't it.
Perhaps the doctor also lied about how many athletes he has "worked" with to boost his credentials. Or maybe he has doped 50 athletes. Either way he's in trouble now. Time will tell.
The Freddie parts do seem more cinematic/story-telling than actual journalism. Like I said above, Sunday Times have already been caught trolling, literally, for an undercover-reporter-exposes-doping story. Sounds like this dude was exactly what they wanted. It does establish to viewers that drugs are easy to get, even if that bit is not connected to actual runners/coaches.agents.
Seppelt does seem to have an axe to grind, but, well, so does anyone taking a stand on anti-doping. I understand complaints that he could just as easily find juicy stories investigating German football clubs, coaches and doctors, or go back in history to East-German doping. His focus on Kenya and Russia does seem to imply a "these countries and only these countries" when it comes to doping.
But I do think his interest is genuine, and I think he does his work with integrity. That he set up an anonymous tip line is something new. Critics could say it is a hotline for new leads for his own gain, but this is the first 3rd party tip line to really emerge, at all. He has tried to work with authorities, and follow actual protocol, but those authorities have rejected his evidence (WADA and IAAF, due to their own self-interests). That he was not given a proper forum with those authorities forced him to come out with these documentaries that are criticized as tabloidism. And this documentary, with the consultation with the Kenyan government and the subsequent arrests, shows that his interest is in effective anti-doping, and that it relies on the cooperation of those in positions of power.
