Huge kick from Chelimo and Jenkins to get the other 2 spots. Rupp looked slow even for a marathoner.

How about Lagat getting 4th in 7:41? Not bad for someone who is 41 years old. Loved the team tactics to take down Rupp (though he apparently wasn't a major player).
P.S. Go Lagat! Almost made it at 41.
Only 2 go on. Jenkins didn't get anything except first eliminated.
2 goes to world's right?

I don't think Rupp in current fitness had much of a shot. Midway through the race I thought Jager had it locked.

My bad... not sure why I said Jenkins got it. I meant to say he ran well... oops

You'd be killing NOP if they used team tactics.

I think top 3 or four get some prize money at least. Jenkins be riding a decent high into his campaign to make the team for Rio. He has some tough sleddin' ahead of him, but he's getting good experience post-NCAA.
Galen Rupp did a fantastic job! After coming back from running a marathon and then running 7:48 for 3000m in US indoor championships has to be a very difficult task. No american and not even Ryan Hill or Bernard Lagat can cover that combination of effort in just one month. So big props to Galen Rupp for running what he did and it's been satisfying that he's got to run it in his hometown. He'll come back and get his speed back for Us Olympic Trials 10000m and 5000m. He's in a good step towards Rio that's for sure, and as a Rupp fan, I know he's capable of winning an Olympic Gold medal in either marathon or 10000m in Rio. He's not a doper.
I give Bowerman Track Club guys credit for setting up an honest and fast pace. It's a hard task but doable. I think the reason they did that was to outrun Bernard Lagat and other athletes who could kick well in a slow, tactical race. Congrats Ryan Hill for winning the race. And congrats to Paul Chelimo for making it to World Indoor US team by finishing in second place.
team tactics are okay, I guess. competitors sacrificing their own races in these situations isn't my favorite thing to watch as a fan.
My biggest takeaway was that the 3000 is way too many laps for an indoor race. I almost fell asleep. Even worse when you decide to stage the women's and men's races back to back.
I think you mean BTC wins the 3k haha. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
In my view, all of Salazar's experience was supposed to prevent Rupp from doing something foolish like this. You have got to respect the marathon. He won in warm conditions and he needed to take a good deal of time off and let his muscles heal for the summer campaign with easy running and a very gradual buildup.

You probably only read Cliff Notes too, right? I mean, they cut away from one of the races to show field events for heaven's sake! One step closer to "Idiocracy" the movie becoming reality...
Hill explained in the post-race that the fast pace was for the other guys, he could win either way. He is right, he can close in 25. Looks like Chelimo got the most benefit of anybody, as BTC dampened Jenkins' kick.
Surprised jager died so hard. With 400 to go, I thought he was the winner.

I agree. I'm surprised but I'm sure there is a reason. Maybe the race was required in contract? A money incentive?

Really? I thought the BTC team tactics were so lame. Lopez dropped out, Bayer died, and then jager died. Honestly it seems like they paid Bayer and Lopez to pace and wouldn't be surprised if they did. Honestly shouldnt be allowed for your teammate to do that in a championship race. Pretty lame.
I loved the team tactics. Haven't seen them in years. So many high school paced "national championship" races nowadays. Awesome to see something fresh. Sad three of the four burned up, but kudos to them for trying something. And it worked. One of their own is the champion and headed to Worlds.
I hate nop.
But I have to say I thought today's team tactics were not cool. I'm ok with trading the lead between teammates. I am not ok with a rabbit who plans to swing wide and drop out halfway through.
This was a championship race, rabbits are not cool in my opinion. Lost a lot of respect for that group for doing that.
