That would actually be somewhat entertaining. Rupp tries to solo a 7:35 and then the A heat guys have to follow (this could actually benefit Rupp since they won't be able to draft off him). Imagine the suspense.
Agree, I'd be excited to see that
NEVER GONNA HAPPEN
Who is the U.S indoor 3000 record holder?
Interesting analysis. Multi section finals are tricky, and I'd even take it a step further and say that if the race isn't in lanes, timed finals aren't ideal (that would include indoor 400, but not outdoor).
What I don't agree with USATF on is that doubles should be protected. I think just set the schedule and if a double is tough, then too bad. Run a q round in both the 15 and the 3 if needed.

It would be more fun if he solos a 7:40. If he runs a 7:35, the other guys might give him a place and run a tactical race. Runs like a 7:40 guys end up with interesting choices between pushing the pace or not. And what if AlSal pays someone to go to the front an slow it down.:)

Has anyone ever solod a 7:35? II doubt it.
Who was that guy that solo'd a few sick 5ks a few years ago? We went bonkers about him. I can't remember his name.
If Rupp solos a 7:35, Travis Tygart should just submit that as proof.
The entire fast heat could get DQ'd.

Here's a letsrun poster soloing a 7:32.

I agree. Maybe this was their plan all along...Rupp would have a hard time kicking for a win after marathon training, so let him time trial a qualifier in the B heat without anyone fast to draft off him. Then his teammate Centro can outkick all of Shumacher's boys and join him as the other qualifier.
A brilliant plan by Alberto.
And Rojo, how would soloing a 7:35 be evidence of doping? Come on now, I'm no Rupp fanboy but that seems extreme for a guy who has run 7:30 before. Use your brain
Looked at your list.
Did Fisher decide to take off his red shirt?
Obviously not all these people (the ones who end up not qualifying for NCAA) will show up at the trials.
Why is this unbelievable?
Rupp IS the fast heat.
Rojo, the man you're thinking of is Joseph Menjo, solo'd a few absurd 5k's in Finland I recall?
Also dominated the Zatopek 10,000m in Australia (in a pair of XC spikes), then proceeded to drop off the face of the earth?
Additionally, Lagat is listed as accepted on the status of entries...
I'm sorry, I read the article and i am too dumb to understand the situation. So there could be 2 heats, and Rupp may have to run out of the slow heat, but if they only ran 1 and limited the field size to 16, isn't there a chance he wouldn't be able to race at all? Also, what does it mean that he's already run the world's standard? What does that do for him?
I just don't see rupp qualifying. The U.S. Has some real talent and rupp just ran a marathon. Had he not done that id be more optimistic . But he's got two guys in his camp that could dust him currently at 3k

It must be the Joseph Menjo alright. He soloed a 12:55 5K followed by a 26:56 10K a couple of weeks later.
He doesn't need a 7:35. 7:39 will do.
If there was a slow/fast heat set-up and Rupp did his thing out of the slow heat and then Nike NOPe minions blatantly slowed down the fast heat, covering any surges then slowing precipitately, throwing off any rhythm in the fast heat, could a protest be legally filed by an opposing coach?
