“To cut the budget on athletes’ hospitality and comfort, that’s just going to cheapen the Games.â€
“The world wants to tune in and watch the world’s greatest athletes compete at the absolute highest level,†said Symmonds, a Bishop Kelly High graduate. “If you don’t provide them with good food, a good place to sleep and comfortable temperature, they won’t be able to recover and bring the A-plus product that the world is demanding.
Does anyone find this laughable and a bit hypocritical?
For years, we've heard from Nick how the Olympics/USATF screw the athletes by not paying them enough. Now we find out it costs a fortune to build these stadiums and guess what - spoiler alert - a third world country like Brazil can't afford every modern amenity.
By getting booted off of the 2013 team, Nick had set himself up to be a modern day progressive, but now he is demanding that Brazil, a country with massive economic problems, spend millions on his air conditioning? Does that make any sense.
As a progressive, I'd expect Nick to be supporting Brazil on this. Plus the way I see it, it's great for the US's chances. Anyone with $100 can by a portable AC unit. I'm sure USATF and/or Brooks can afford that.
The budget cuts give the American boys a chance as maybe the Africans will be sweating their asses off in the dorms all day.
