NR former holder was Simon Bairu
I was at the race. Not sure what people saw on tv but Levins ran a lot of it by himself. So it was even more impressive than what the time indicated. Moreover he ran by himself for all the right reasons. It was ridiculous to run the 26:30 pace at the outset. All he could do was stay within himself and run like he did.
Ran alone most of the race?
Funny, listening to Mo I was under the impression that would result in bursting into flames.
Easily worth sub-27 paced to bell in windless Rieti with right tree count.
Levins is going to run 26:4x when all is said and done.
A Canadian who finished forth. Who give a crap?
So awesome. How can one not be a levins fan? Very happy for him

Canadians. Quit jerking yourself off.
It was a great run. 27:07 is terrific. What's not terrific is people in other threads who want to criticize the 3 guys who ran faster for "lagging." Ridiculous.
To saladbar's comment's on bursting into flames, it's not like Farah didn't lead several laps.

A 14-year-old pimple faced dufus makes what he thinks is a clever comment. Who give a crap?
An American finished third in the 5k. Who gives a crap?
Good for Levins, about time.
Honestly though I think he'd be faster had he kept doing the SUU training and not gone to NOP, because he was stronger and on a much more positive trajectory at that time.
And Salazar seems to be not much better of a 10000m coach than he is a coach for the marathon. Maybe he should stick to coaching the 1500 meters.
Only 50 seconds to go wrote:

Because 180 miles weeks are sustainable? Come on dude...

Why is it called the "Pre Classic"? Levins time smoked Pre, next year call it the Levins Classic.
Congrats to Cam Levins .... awesome run !
Especially when you consider how he did it: his youtube interview says he passed 5km in about 13:40, meaning he came back in 13:27 ... all on his own !!
a quick check on the ALL-TIME list ....
has him at about 72nd; if you remove the african born runners I believe that puts him only behind Galen Rupp (26:44) and Solinsky (26:59) as fastest non-africans.
Well he is happy with it:

yeah, a gold and silver medal at the most recent olympics seems to indicate he's pretty awful at coaching for the 10k

Great spelling and grammar you imbecile.
Congratulations to Levins on getting his first outdoor Canadian record. He came close many times, so I'm sure that he is quite happy... The 5000m Canadian record is next...
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
