$10.00 an hour + tips which averages to $13.00
It's pretty good, I would guess almost $20. Tips probably no more than $5. I'll guess $18.50 and $3.50.
$8.40 an hour + $1.50-$2.00 in tips she said.
I couldn't believe it was that low. I'm in a nice suburb of Pittsburgh.
People only protest the pay at McDonald's but I think that is because they don't like McDonald's. Starbucks doesn't pay much better does it?
10.40 is ok,for the level of work

Does anyone know if they pool tips-everyone on the shift in some restaurants- or if they get an individual tip can and get to keep their own tips?
Does the Dept of Labor classify the barista job title as a tipped employee?
Starbucks is hip so they get a pass. I dig the tats and cool hairdo on my barista.
Starbucks is hip?Starbucks is a chain, like McDonalds. It was kind of hip in 1991. Do you live in the Midwest?

I'm surprised the tips are so low. That seems like the tips from just 1 or 2 drinks. Do people not tip at starbucks?
How much exactly do people expect to get paid to fill a cup up with coffee?
Come into the city. Starting pay is $10.50.

Not surprised. It's McDonalds except coffee.
The whole Munchausian bootstrap fable combined with American exceptionalism stopped working years ago.
The tips are low because it takes them so fucking long to produce a simple cup of coffee. If you want tips, you need volume.
Like every entry-level foodservice job at a chain resturant, the job is geared more towards teenagers still in high school. That is more than enough for them. When I see late 20's-middle age people working as baristas, I just shake my head.

The whole transaction--taking my order, pouring coffee into a cup, accepting my money, and making change--might take one minute. If I tip a dollar for this, I am paying $60/hr for the service. Seems a bit excessive.
Actually interviewed at a Starbucks a month or two ago when I thought I was stuck at my job with no chance of advancement. I was offered $9.13 an hour plus tips which I was told was $2-4 an hour (Northeast region) However I also believe advancement from regular barista to whatever position comes next is pretty easy if you have a college degree ex. less than 4mths. I don't think pay is awful, and if you start there during college/right after it can be a pretty well paying job for a single guy/girl on there own.
Just because they put a on the counter doesn't mean they should get tips. Maybe if they washed the windows on my car I would give them a buck or two.

Yeah. Hip. Your male and the barista is male. It's so hip and PC to be a butt licking rimmer.
