The coach not the whiskey.
I've heard folks swear by him. I've heard others swear at him.
What is the truth?

Its a whiskey, don't kid yourself.
He was one of the Farm Team hired guns brought in to work with the female distance runners. Remember the Womens Cross Team won the Nationals convincingly.
Jack Daniels is the man. His book on training offers scientific methods on how to improve in any distance event.
Jack helped me out tremendously, despite being busy as he is, I emailed him at SUNY-Cortland and he agreed to coach me via-email once I provided him with a background(in-depth) of myself, Starting in Dec with a mile PR of only 4:35 following Jack's prescribed workouts and pace, I ran a 4:17 PR in the mile in Late May, along with numereous other PRs from 800 - 1/2 marathon. Jack is one of a kind, very intelligent and down to earth, I owe a lot to him, you have to find what works for you though. Jack's book was pretty easy compared to the workouts he had me to do, They were to say the least very very challenging but doeable as well. Good luck if you need any other advice contact me via this post, GOD BLESS,
Nick
I'm not a big fan of his work.
Buy his book. It is simple and pretty easy to follow. It fits really well into a college program if your coach lets you have some freedom. I have had a lot of success from his simple plans. in one year 15:55 to 14:57 5k and 26:30 8k (cross) to 25:10. The people who get down on him haven't tried him or have misread his stuff. The bottom line is that it is a multi-tier training program that peaks for race season much like "better training for distance runners" by peter coe only it is far simpler and you don't have to read to mountains of physiology
Where did u get his e-mail? Can you post it or e-mail me with it. Did it cost anything? I've wanted to be coached by Mr. Daniels for a longtime. Any info would be great
The fax he faxed me stuff was (650) 210-9531, I dont know if this was while he was in California or not, this is his email address he used:
I found it by going to SUNY-Cortland Universities web site in New York state and going to cross country, I think it's
That one may be wrong, good luck, it took him a while to reply to me, but he did, but he's a very busy man, he made a no-name like me run a dream time,!
If you need any other info let me know via the post

IF you want to know the real story please ask, not on line. Do you really want to know? Check back here & I'll follow up. Give me your e-mail I'll provide the facts.
A perhaps unnecessary disclaimer: the person who started this thread is not the same "a guest" who debates old vs. new training with Hodge.
OK, send me an e-mail, for I'd love "the facts." I do remember Larry Barthlow, coached by Daniels, doing a harder version of what is in Daniel's book. Also, Sev used to work with Daniels at AW and use the pace scales they derived together.
Anyway, real scoop?
