I think it is easier to lose weight when you are training
at a slightly reduced level. I tend to gain weight when
I am really training hard (for me that's 90-100 miles a
week, including some speed work) because my appetite is
ferocious, and because I don't dare mess around with my
diet - I need to recover quickly to be ready for
the next workout, so I err on the side of eating too much.
I tend to lose weight when I am just cruising along at 60-
70 miles per week, none of it particularly hard, as long
as I just remember to stop eating as soon as I am full
and avoid stuffing myself (if I have recently been training
hard, it usually takes a week before my appetite slows
down, but eventually it does).
