I feel bad for him, TBH.

He's done. He'll never be competitive in the sport again.
Tapia is showing Ryan what could have been if he stayed with mammoth club, where Tapia is now.
ryan hall DNF with 2;15 pace. gtfo :*(
I doubt Hall sticks with Daniels if he still plans to run in the 2016 trials.
Two possibilities.
1. His pride destroyed his career. No coach gave him the flexibility to travel and ride the gravy train. The result is he has been his own worst enemy and he wasn't disciplined enough to maintain the required top-tier edge.
2. His success 4-7 years ago was a fluke and he just isn't/wasn't that good. Being that there is no such thing as fluke good races, all things point to #1. With that being the case, it's hard to feel sorry for him.
Maybe he just wanted to get to church on time since it is a Sunday. Ironically there are 4 churces within 3 blocks of wherehe dropped.
I was irrationally confident in his irrational self-confidence.
I think the problem with Hall is that after all these DNFs and what seems like years since he's finished his last marathon or won a high profile race, he's okay with a DNF. He's used to it now, so if he's feeling discomfort for killing the first mile or 5k, he thinks he's hurt something. Of course this will be very hard but if he ever expects to be a top-level marathoner again and expects to race good at races other than the Olympic Trials once every 4 years, he really needs to toughen up, swallow his pride, and take these bad results. That, or become a pacer.
The amount of DNFs he racks up is utterly ridiculous. For somebody who is billed as one of the best marathoners in American history, this is disgustingly bad. He needs to grow a pair, not go with the Africans he thinks he can compete with, and actually finish a marathon before he can win one. Even if it's a 2:20, he needs to start somewhere if he expects to make his way back to the top.
It's ridiculous to call Hall's 4-5 year run at the top of American marathoning a "fluke." His performances at London (2007, 2008), Boston (2009, 2010, 2011), the Olympic trials (2007, 2012), Beijing (2008), and even the Houston half (2007) were no joke. All good things must come to an end, I guess.
He just needed some extra time this morning to sign a few 41st Day posters.
Sara just got spit out the back, too
I am so over Ryan Hall
Fool me once...
CRIPES YOU PEOPLE! He FINISHED BOSTON last year! DON'T you know how many RUNNERS DREAM OF JUST THAT???
And, HECK!, IT WAS RYAN HALL THAT MADE MEB's WIN POSSIBLE!
Or don't you REMEMBER????!

I could not agree more - which points to #1. He has been his own worst enemy. An elite distance career should not be coming to an end at age 32 - it should be the start of his PRIME. An absolute waste.

Did he get the B qualifier at Boston last year? Does he have a qualifying time for the Trials?
Well I think many people on this site expected today's result for Ryan, it is sad to see someone who had so much potential go out like this. I really think Ryan's biggest problem are his religious beliefs which seem to have led him to make really bad training / coaching decisions. I don't know him personally but he often comes across as mentally ill in interviews. I don't think he'll ever run well again unless he gets his head straight (which he won't because ultra-Christians tend to "turn to the Church" in such situations rather than turning to legitimate sources for mental health therapy).
Even if he did get some real psychotherapy, he might just be too old and have too many years of suboptimal training to ever compete at a high level again. It's frankly amazing that his sponsors have stuck with him this long. The Ryan Hall story is truly something Christian distance runners should learn from and not emulate.
Look for the announcement to come out that he is running this years Boston Marathon.
He ran 2:17 I think. I caught him right at the corner before Boylston. (On camera!)
That said, I think Boston 2011 was his last good race. Yes, he made the Olympic team in 2012, but that race was not a good race. He pushed the pace early, then ended up getting dropped. He was still able to ride on the fumes of his prior fitness. The damage (mentally) was already done by then.

I just sprayed my screen with coffee... LOL!
Yeah...sure... it was Ryan Hall who won Boston for Meb... @@... maybe it was Meb who won Boston for Meb??? Had Ryan had it in him to win, I am sure he would have tried to win it himself. It is easy to say that you didn't try to overtake someone when you physically cannot.
