Chumba, Kebede
Chumba, Kebede
44F and light rain, no wind
Starts at 7pm eastern time. Any predictions before it starts?
The LRC nation has voted as follows:
Who wins?
Tsegaye Kebede 38%
Stephen Kiprotich 25%
Tariku Bekele 17%
Dickson Chumba 10%
Markos Geneti 3%
Endeshaw Negesse 2%
Other 5%
Does anyone know if Canova is coaching Tariku? How ironic would it be if he gets his first major win before big bro Kenenisa?
In terms of the women, the votes are as follows.
Birhane Dibaba 32%
Tiki Gelana 30%
Selly Kaptich Chepyego 26%
Flomena Cheyech Daniel 4%
Other 9%
Dibaba and Chpeyego should be getting way more votes than Gelana based on recent performance. Gelana hasn't done anything in years.
It would be heartwarming to see Gelana and Kiprotich win. One overcoming getting slammed by a wheelchair and the other the death of his daugther.
Let's hope the coverage is good.
One more things about the Tokyo pre-race polls. They are no longer on the HP as we have given Mo Farah QOD status.
You can see the polls and still vote here:

(you should see the video at the bottom, the wearable tomato one)

Everyone in the US can stream Universal Sports through Dishworld. See here:
http://www.letsrun.com/news/2015/02/streaming-tv-2015-tokyo-marathon-television-and-streaming-information/$9.99 a month, you get quite a few channels including BeINSports, One World Sports. If you're into soccer and running it's a tremendous deal.
I watch BeInSports almost every day.
God. I just turned it on. WHo is this idiot that is broadcasting.
it sounded like he was saying the only reason there are no elite Japanese 10,000 guys is because the corporate system and money favors/roads marathons.
Sports Gene, buddy. Go buy a copy.
If only there was more money for Jamaicans to run the marathon, I'm sure they'd be dominating the marathon. Same thing for dwarfs in the NBA.
I turned it on late. Have they said anything abou the weather. I know it was supposed to very iffy. Google says it's 43 with 96% humidity. Is it actually raining?
Has anyone found a tracking website or leaderboard online? That's how we normally follow races and then we post here what we learn but I don't see anything.
First 5k was 14:56 - that's 2:06:01 pace.
That's very surprising as the course is kind of like Boston - way downhill at the beginning.
I had internet problems. No mention of weather.
14:56 at 5k for the men That's 2:06:01 pace.
A lot of Japanese male runners seem to wear womens running shorts from the 1980s
Did Tariku Bekele start the race? The IAAF report and other reports on the race said he was having travel problems and had not arrived as of Friday.
29:54 for 10k so essentially the same pace. (I was only 14 minutes late posting the 5k split).
I can't read japanese. I'll buy a beer in Boston to the first person who posts the link to live splits.
It is interesting how many Japanese guys go out at 2:06 pace. In the US only Meb would be up there now, maybe Ryan Hall. There are at least 10 japanese guys.
I found this. It doesn't show the leaders. You have to enter a bib number http://p.tokyo42195.org/
I stopped watching the live stream, but I'm pretty sure I saw him running at the start.
I just caught a glimpse of Tariku -- he's up near the front.
