Debut for Kim Conley. Fairly wide open fields. Should be interesting. Good opportunity for someone to make a breakthrough performance and get noticed.
Solid field! Will there be an entry list for the marathon if anyone knows?
Not sure, you can prob. check the Chevron Houston Marathon page.
i think conley will win it in 70:42, negative split. sara hall gets 2nd in 70:55
Conley
Crouch
Hall
Jimison
Kleppin
Santucci
Wade
^^^ This is 'the Race' within the race.
Missing from 'the List' is Taylor-Johnson, running 'the Full'.
Okay, I'll add one more to 'the List', who can't be counted out when finalizing 'the List' because she still goes to Kenya and still seems to be putting forth a gumption...well, I won't go in the why and why nots...
Here is the edited 'the List':
Bawcon
Conley
Crouch
Hall
Jimison
Kleppin
Santucci
Wade

I believe Bawcom has the fastest 1/2 pr with just under 70.
Might add Stephanie (Rothstein) Bruce to the mix, although this is her first race after having a baby. Mattie Suver can run @72 on a good day. Brianne Nelson has also run 72. And Alisha Williams ran 72 in Indy this fall.
Course is super fast. If the weather is good, I think it will take a 70 to win with a big pack coming in between 71-72. The "race within the race" is fairly evenly matched. Should be interesting to see who rises to the occasion.
The 'age factor' factors into making 'the List'.
please explain how this pertains to meb, lagat, ritz (i know he's oft hurt, but always races well) and......drum roll, Bawcom? she's yet to have a sh** race that I'm aware of, and outside of flanagan/huddle, I don't see anyone beating her in a 1/2 marathon. maybe a 10K, but certainly not a 1/2

I put Bawcom, maybe reluctantly at this point, on 'the List', if you are having trouble following along. 'The List' pertains to the eventual 'the Race' going off in about a year, so I'm not focused on who tops out at a 10k or Half.
And sure, putting it the way I just did, one could debate whether Conley even belongs on 'the List ', whether or not she wins this race.
We don't know. But she is Kim Conley.

Now let's think about this a bit.
Without a 'Patti Dillon' in the race, who do you think is going to want to take this out? Hall ran after Huddle, for broke, at the 12K Championships because she had the overall Grand Prix title on the line. But she ended up carnage to Conley and Sisson. What is her incentive to do that again?
Me thinks it's pay back time. So maybe Conley says, "Fine Sara, see you with 1000m to go".
Any of these other women going to step up earlier than that? Taylor isn't in the race. Scherf is not afraid to go out hard early. Conley may let her go for a while.
Speaking of Patti, anybody else going to call up the RD and try and get a number? Hastings? Goucher? Uhl? Polina?!?
lol. (somebody said the latter may not be a citizen?)
Jennifer Bergman is the hottest
Are they going to stream this race? I hope they get an anti-shake device on the lead-vehicle camera. :-)
Goucher? You didn't get the memo?:

It's crunch time, she knows it and saying the right things. Go big or go home.

here's my reasoning. i spoke to kim on sunday and she said that she's been training at 69:30-70:00 pace for her workouts. i aksed if she knew the winning times for the last couple races for this event and she said they were pretty slow, except from the year goucher or flanagan ran it in 69. so kim told me that she'll have to decide if she wants to push it at 70 pace likely alone, or sit back at 72 pace and kick it in. my guess is that itll be slow for a few miles before kim decides to push it. hence 70:xx. option B is huge last few miles in like 15:30ish after a bunch of 5:25-5:30s
Good stuff, reed!
I am surprised Ryan Hall is not running (or at least not on the entry list) as his wife is entered and he has a marathon in Los Angeles in 2 month's and this would be a good fitness test.
Maybe he has another pre-marathon race scheduled.
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
