"The flu" huh? Do they not have flu shots in Oregon or something?
He probably got sick from all the germs on his gold medals.
Flu shot doesn't always work... plus maybe he is paranoid about an unknown person injecting something in him.
Did he catch it in Oregon? Just wondering from the perspective of whether to avoid going out much if the flu is bouncing around.

It is well known (at least I thought) that the flu virus, as it is apt to do, has mutated, and while this year's flu vaccine protects against several strains, it does not against one of main ones circulating (at least not an exact match)-http://www.nbcnews.com/health/cold-flu/cdc-warning-flu-viruses-mutate-evade-current-vaccine-n261226
Furthermore, while Mo might indeed have the flu, there are several other severe flu-like viruses out there infecting people. I've never known so many people in my life to be sick (bad cold, flu or cold- or flu-like respiratory illness) as I do this winter.

Looks like you are moderately safe! Just don't leave the west coast! (or maybe your house)
Mo doesn't look too bad in his holiday Instagram pics. Must have really fallen hard over the weekend...
I'd say there's something else going on. Is the jig finally up?
even if he did haven't this year's flu shot, there is a strain going around that it missed (lol big phrama)

Oh, "you´d say"!
Listen everybody. This guy has something important to tell the world!
he says he had the flu. And missed a few days training. There's still 5 days until the race.
Obviously when he got over the flu he got sick again with the CHICKEN pox.

+1
When you tinker with your blood chemistry, the immune system can take a hit.
To be fair, I'm usually very healthy, but this year I got the flu bad. 2 days in bed, 2 days feeling hazy, another 2 before I felt like myself. And then the running was not back up to normal for 2 weeks.
If you get the flu, you feel like crap for a while. Plus hard training suppresses the immune system.
That's the problem with long distance running at a high level:
1. CHRONIC CARDIO destroys your immune system
2. low fat diet makes it difficult to absorb vitamins
But you didn't get the flu over and over and over again like Mo.
