actually, that's not the case. BU's facility is indeed Fort Knox, although it probably won't be next year once the new rec building is open (that's the problem this year, intermural sports have been shoved into the new trackwhile the Armory is leveled and rebuilt). If you are alone, you can sneak into Harvard pretty easily. Many people do it, even groups of people. However, I wouldn't try it until school returns.
Even though the distance runners of my club (GBTC) train at MIT, the track is pretty crummy and not worth it. I believe Somerville Road Runners train at Tufts, which isn't too bad at all, and Cambridge Sports Union legally trains at Harvard. Us GBTC sprinters had a long standing relationship with BU, but as previously mentioned no one is being let in this year (both GBTC and BAA used BU previously).
However, there is Reggie. Just walk in and buy a membership and the whole shebang is yours, except when there are high school practice and meets. Its 60 dollars for January-February-March, and you need to show proof of good health (doctor's note attesting to your fitness). Pretty much 7-10 every night is open, although other clubs (like us) will be practicing too.
Harvard's team practices at 3pm usually, but before 3 and after 6 you can usually get into the track.
