For those looking for a great spring marathon in the Northeast, try the rapidly improving National Capitol Marathon in Ottawa ON on the weekend of May 10-11th. Winner usually goes 2:14-17, and the fields are improving every year. There is also a very good 10k on the Saturday night before the race with good prize money.

I'll second that. I've run the marathon and half marathon each a couple of times and the 10K this year. Both courses are flat and fast. Very good competition in the 10K, and usually a handful of very good runners in the marathon. Competition in the half is a bit softer. Can't vouch for the prize money, as that's never been a consideration for me. The marathon is two laps - so maybe a bit boring. Weather is usually excellent for the marathon that time of year. And Ottawa's a great city with plenty of character and good restaurants.
And Ottawa has a kick ass Tulip Festival at the same time. There must be about 100,000 tulips planted all over the city. That's a good diversion for your honey... if you're bringing one with ya.
