Is it still okay to run in a hooded sweatshirt and pants like these.
Or does any serous runner need to get tights, a running jacket, tech shirts, 100+ shoes etc??

If you are a serious runner it will show when you race.
The real fashion crime is all those kids at Mt Sac wearing long compression shorts under splits.

this. why people do that is beyond me.
Tights under shorts looks so lame. Might as well wear pants
Singlet with tights or singlet with arm sleeves and tights
white socks with tights and/or colored shoes
Compression socks look goofy idc whether or not they actually work
Singlets that are really tight or short look lame. A little baggy looks better.
Tights look best when worn with a kind of oversized running jacket or a long sleeve tech shirt that hangs lower to mid or below the crotch so all the focus isn't just on your package.
if you tuck your shirt in over tights then there's no question as to whether people will laugh at you.
Should I tuck the junk when wearing tights without shorts over the top? Or should I not worry about it.

Who are you?
Just focus on your training and don't worry about how you look. If it doesn't give you blisters and keeps you warm in the winter or cool in summer, you're fine wearing it.
OP for those pants, they may whip around a lot near the feet. if you wanna fix that problem, get some rubber bands.
if that's too ghetto for you, then don't buy the pants.
The long basketball shorts over tights is silly.
Those sweats you posted are fine for after a run, but I wouldn't want to wear THAT much clothing on a run of real length.
I hate the long socks. People look ridiculous, they should come with a powdered wig to complete the look.
The kids with singlets that are size to small. Tight and showing midriff just lookds dumb.
After reading the above posts, I have to say that while runners who run in split shorts think they are cool, EVERYONE who sees you is laughing at you. People who run shirtless? No one wants to see your underdeveloped flabby pecs bouncing up and down. It isn't Baywatch.Wearing a singlet when not in a race makes you a total tool.FYI, for all who care, everyone laughs at amateur cyclists who have the spandex shorts, the cycling jersey and the weird helmets. They view runners the same way. If it isn't part of you HS or college uniform, don't wear it to run around town or the trails. You look like an idiot wannabe. In colder weather, those warm-ups are very appropriate, as is a hoodie. These are the clothes that you wear and people don't think twice. Anything else and you are just trying too hard.

Wear whatever you want, in whatever color you want, anyway you want. No one who matters will care, and who really cares anyway?
Lol I live in the desert. On an afternoon double its 106 degrees so shirtless is the way to go.
If you run a lot and strengthen you should have ripped abs and solid pecs and look good without a shirt. Unless you are an underdeveloped adolescent haha.
I've been told by women in my area who don't run who have seen me running that I look awesome. I've been called "a morning treat on the way to work". They don't laugh at me they marvel at me.
And honestly who wants to run 12 miles in sweatpants???? Tights are definitley the way to go unless you don't look like a runner or want fleece material rubbing away your skin for an hour and a half.
I pass judgment on those wearing:
1) Forearm warmers
2) Ipods
3) Of course, shorts over half or full length tights
-- If you are focusing on appearance rather that performance, you are a loser --
If you are wearing THAT many clothes to go running you are missing out on one of the best aspects of the sport.
In the summer all you need is a pr of shorts, socks, and shoes.
Don't be so uptight and worried about showing your body. Running is the best excuse to run around half nekkid and nobody can say anything to you.
Wear whatever you want. Nobody cares.
Going out for track in 9th grade, the coach instructed us to remove our sweat pants for the J.V. mile time trial to see who would make the team for the first meet.
Me: "Are we supposed to wear shorts under our sweat pants?"
What a maroon, as Bugs Bunny would say. But still, I went and got my shorts and won the darn time trial.
Regular shorts fine. Split shorts and you look like an IDIOT!
3/4 length tights. For men. Discuss.
