Got my hands on some mate de coca (coca tea) from south america. the tea was alright, but placing the tea bag in ones mouth gives some stimulation. I felt energized and could breath better. anyone else ever chew coca?

millions
Yes!! I have licked, chewed, smoked, and snorted a many of coca leaves and felt stimulated for several hours.
what about running with the coca tea bag in your mouth? thinking about trying it. makes my mouth go numb though
bump
Coca is supposed to add stamina. When I was in La Paz (13,000 ft elevation) a couple years ago I took up chewing coca while there. Of the 12 people on the trip I, along with one other who chewed coca, were the only ones on the trip not to experience altitude sickness. We were the only ones to chewed it. Using the stuff definitely made it easier walking around the city. As far as helping your running, might work might not.
And for those that think by chewing coca you're doing cocain, your not.
Dude you said Tea bag
"And for those that think by chewing coca you're doing cocain, your not."
It would lead to a positive test for Cocaine metabolites though and is therefore just as illegal in a drug test.
oh? If you chewed a few pounds it pounds it probably would.
So you reccomend it as a training and racing aid then? I don't think athletes who are likely to be tested would risk it.

I'm not recommending or not recommending. Chewing 2 leaves (about all you can fit in your mouth) is probably not going to set off alarm bells though. However, I wouldn't risk it if you were going to get tested. Above all, it's illegal to have the stuff (leaves or processed cocain) in the U.S. and I would imagine most everywhere else except in places like Bolivia and Peru. And there I'm sure that it is not legal to have processed cocain.
* not recommending chewing it or not chewing it
had some before. just slit open the tea bag (1gram) and inserted a small amount of bicarbonate (baking soda) to reduce the alkaloids in the leaves. Felt energized, mouth a little numb, not so bad of a taste, and the leaves contain calcuim, iron, and some other crap. Felt the best when i took about three bags over the course of a day.
Oh, and it is not like snorting cocaine. The tea only has about 5mg of cocaine in it, and its not the cocaine hydrocloride (the coke we all think of, powder). Good stuff.
I woundn't do it before a drug test. I'll bet I can guess a couple of substances that may be responsible for the stimulation.
and what would that be? state the obvious, cocaine. How long does it take to rid the cocaine aquired from the tea from ones system?
Coca (cocaine) was used as an anasthetic by the Incas or Mayans I believe. I did some kind of report on it in high school. I don't have any first hand experience though the opportunity has presented itself once or twice. Just say no.

Coca is not cocaine. Cocaine is a substance chemically derived from leaves of the coca plant.

Here is a scientific abstract I found on Coca tea consumption and positive drug tests.

ABSTRACT
The consumption of coca tea is a common occurrence in many South American countries. The tea is often packaged in individual servings as tea bags which contain approximately 1 g of plant material. The consumption of coca tea leads to ingestion of cocaine and other alkaloids; however, there is little information available regarding the pharmacological or toxicological effects that result from consumption of coca tea. We performed a series of studies with coca tea bags from two South American countries, Peru and Bolivia. The alkaloidal content of the 'coca leaf' in coca tea bags was determined by two different extraction methods: Soxhlet extraction with methanol (exhaustive extraction), and mechanical agitation with methanol. Extracts were purified by solid-phase extraction (SPE) followed by analysis by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Coca tea prepared from Peruvian and Bolivian coca tea bags was also analyzed by SPE-GC/MS assay. In addition, urine specimens were analyzed from an individual who consumed one cup of Peruvian coca tea and one cup of Bolivian coca tea on separate occasions. Urine samples were analyzed by immunoassay (TDx) and SPE-GC/MS. Analysis of coca tea bags and coca tea indicated that cocaine, benzoylecgonine, ecgonine methyl ester and trans-cinnamoylcocaine were present in varying quantities. With exhaustive extraction, an average of 5.11 mg, and 4.86 mg of cocaine per tea bag were found in coca leaf from Peru and Bolivia, respectively. The average amounts of benzoylecgonine, ecgonine methyl ester in Peruvian coca leaf were 0.11 and 1.15 mg, and in Bolivian coca leaf were 0.12 and 2.93 mg per tea bag, respectively. trans-cinnamoylcocaine was found in trace amounts in Peruvian tea bags and 0.16 mg/tea bag of Bolivian tea. When tea was prepared, an average of 4.14 mg of cocaine was present in a cup of Peruvian coca tea and 4.29 mg of cocaine was present in Bolivian tea. Following the consumption of a cup of Peruvian tea by one individual, a peak urine benzoylecgonine concentration of 3940 ng/ml occurred 10 h after ingestion. Consumption of Bolivian coca tea resulted in a peak benzoylecgonine concentration of 4979 ng/ml at 3.5 h. The cumulative urinary excretion of benzoylecgonine after approximately 48 h, determined by GC/MS, was 3.11 mg and 2.69 mg after consumption of Peruvian and Bolivian coca tea, respectively. This study demonstrated that coca tea bags and coca tea contain a significant amount of cocaine and cocaine-related alkaloids and the consumption of a single cup of Peruvian or Bolivian coca tea produces positive drug test results for cocaine metabolites.

Cocaine is an active alkaloid of the coca plant. Therefore, technically, coca and cocaine are one in the same.
I stand corrected. The effects of leaves vs. processed cocaine are still very different I'm sure, although I can't speak for the later being I've never tried it nor have any desire whatsoever to try it.
