Why is #30 Texas in the slow race?
Why aren't the Oregon Women running it's to 2 Neer and Baxter they haven't run all year long are they redshirting? thanks
Certainly don't want to hijack this thread, but the bigger issue that was touched upon in the preview is the way schools qualify for the championship race.
It is briefly mentioned how unimportant the regular season is, and only one or two meets (outside of conference/regional) have any significance.
How is the sport suppose to attract fans when there are hardly any meets? How do I follow my alma mater when they only race 6 times during the season. Can you blame them as the races don't count?
ADs will cut XC programs because they rarely race, and how's fault would that be?
Outside the conference/regional race, we are supposed to get excited over one big race all season?
I do not have the answers, but these coaches should. Something needs to change ASAP. Is it possible to be more fringe than it currently is?
Texas obviously does not want to run in the fast race. It is likely that Herbster just wants a confidence builder going into the championship season.

This has been a lament of mine for a long time. A million years ago when I ran in college, we raced practically every weekend. We'd take weekends off only before the conference and NCAA District meets. It was a helluva lot of fun!
Fast forward to today...Not only do teams rarely race, but their big guns compete only 2 or 3 times a year. I assume the lack of frequency in team racing could be budget related, but resting the studs for all but a couple of meets is ridiculous. If I was running CC in college today, I'd be sneaking in as many road and trail races as possible.
I agree 100%. I also ran in college about a million years ago and we raced every weekend too. Some races might have been low key dual meets, but it still had an article in the school paper. If coaches are worried about over racing, have them race 8Ks.The infrequency is killing the sport. There is no reason to write about it in school newspapers if they don't have a race.

That's a big win for Johnson and a big breakthrough for Curham. Johnson was second at Roy Griak (beat Crystal Nelson).

Not a great day for UM. MSU looked great at Wico and will take over the # 1 spot in the rankings.
Damn if Oregon would just run it's top 2 of Baxter and Neer they would be locks to win NCAA. Are Neer and Baxter injured? you got to figure both of them at worst finish top 10 in this race and Baxter top 3. :(
