Yes I believe he was on the Ellen Degeneres Show and said that statement.
He's an actor. Running will help stay slim and marketable.
Is he a really good runner? Probably not.

How bored do you have to be to watch Shia Lebeouf on Ellen?
Without a 9-5 job, what else is he going to do all day?
I believe he does it at 10 min per mile. Dude at my office is known as "the runner" and after starting from nothing he does do 8-12 mile runs, but he has mentioned the amount of time it takes him to do these and it's right around 10 min/mi. No hate towards either of them, just the facts though.
Shia has always been an incredible runner. Fast forward to 3min 14 seconds. Watch the whole episode for an incredible display of sportsmanship.

Yeah, 25 years ago I used to race 5k at 5:00 pace and jog at 7:00 pace. Now I race at 8:00 pace and jog at 12:00. Still love it. Still put in same amount of time, but boy aging sucks.
Are you 60+ now? If not, I've seen some really fast 50-56 old runners. 5:45 pace 5ks. After 60, there's a steeper drop off.
Bottom line, there's tons of hope for 50-60 year olds to still race under 7min/mile pace. Aging does suck, but I'd probably quit if I dropped to 8:00 pace for 5k races before I were 60...

You bet he runs 12 miles a day. He's always chasing prey.
