Ritz has basically left and Rupp and Farah will be past their prime in a few years on the track anyway, and ALberto is going to need new guys to fill in the spots. Who do you think Alberto will bring in?

I think Edward Cheserek has a spot if he's wants to become the best.

Salazar is trying to beat the Kenyans and Ethiopians, he wouldn't recruit one.
I think Salazar will likely recruit someone from Oregon that shows promise and is American. Matthew Maton in 5 years, is my prime pick. Also, Sara Baxter if she develops well at Oregon.

Why does he need to go to Salazar if he wants to become the best? Salazar has only had 2 real successes. One of those was already a 12:50 guy before he joined. The other took TEN years to run a world class time.
I don't understand why everyone thinks the NOP so great. They are good, but plenty of coaches/programs are just as good.
Since joining Salazar, what have Puskedra, Erdmann, Hasay, Cain, Levin's, and Centrowitz really done regarding improvement (timewise) compared to their abilities before joining? Not enough to crown Salazar the king of training yet.
If Cheserek wants to be the best, he should just keep doing what he has been doing so far. Seems to be working out fine. No need to change programs.

Mo Farah was not a 12:50 guy before joining NOP. His PB is 12:52.
He had a PB of 12:57 prior to joining Alberto. His PB was slower than Dathan's at the time he joined.

There's more to running than times. Cain has won the indoor US championships, placed second in the outdoor US championships, made the finals at the World Championships, won the World Junior Championships, and set a slew of US HS and Junior Records.
Levins has improved time-wise in almost all of his events and recently got the Commonwealth Bronze (and in all seriousness, he was definitely in contention for Gold).
Centrowitz has placed 3rd at the World Championships, 4th at the Olympics, and 2nd at the World Championships over the course of 3 years.
Salazar more or less manages to get a significant number of his runners into competitive ability (i.e. developing a kick). Compare that to a guy like Schumacher who somehow seems unable to develop a kick in runners, or actually causes them to lose whatever kick they originally had.
Hasay has set a new PR in every race she has competed in this past year. Her website claims she'll be running the Tufts 10K in Boston this Monday. Watch out for yet another PR.

When Farah ran 12:52, he was clearly a 12:4x guy. When I said 12:50, I meant 12:5x in general. My point still stands.

That was my first thought as well.
ummmmmmm who cares, NOP is overrated and a joke anyways.
Salazar has tried to recruit Africans before. He was considering Tariku but decided not to as he thought he would not respond well to the other members as he should. Ethnicity has little to do with it

How can you be so wrong? Are you trolling?
For Cain, there was no one to beat in that indoor championship. The outdoor championship wasn't much better, but it was a good performance. The world junior championship was a joke. The race was slow and handed to her. She would have won that race at the level of performance she had before she joined Salazar. The same for all of those records. She was already fast and improving before she joined Salazar. Furthermore, she ducked the real competition in the 1500 at the world junior championships by running the 3000m. I don't see how people just accept that like it didn't happen.
In fact, has Cain really improved since she joined Salazar? She ran her 3000/2-mile times right after joining him so you can't give him credit for that. But since then, what PR improvement has she really had?
Can Levins? OK you are correct, he got bronze. But his times have not icameron-levins-253604#progression
http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/canada/cameron-levins-253604#progressionCentrowitz is the luckiest runner on the planet and his speed is good. Right place at the right time, but Salazar can't even keep his running consistent or him healthy. Centrowitz is as bad as Leo Manzano sometimes. How is that a plus to Salazar? He has like 1 good race per season.
Salazar doesn't develop kicks. His runners are just in better shape than Schumacher's. Kicks come from not running at your max for the entire race, not from developing them.

I don't entirely disagree with eharmony here. Good post!
Anyway, Al is supposedly retiring when Rupp does. In the meantime, I think Elise Cranny.

If they put him on the path to citizenship thats more of an ideal african for him then Farah is. Ches to replace Farah as the token african on the team.

For starters, you're just wrong. In so many ways I don't even know where to begin. To say finishing speed can't be developed is akin to saying strength over a longer distance race can't be developed.
Sure, every athlete has a ceiling. But of all athletes who prove that speed can be trained, it's Rupp. AlSal publicly expressed his goal to develop Galen's kick during his last years at Oregon. Do you remember Old-Rupp? He spent seasons trying to break 4. I agree that finishing speed is sometimes unfairly attributed to training vs being fresher at the end of a race. But you can't watch a video of Rupp in his senior year of college and the Olympic 10k final and believe that his speed didn't develop due to specific training.

You don't know where to begin because you don't know what you are talking about. I never said kicks can't be developed. In the context, my statement was that their kicks are coming from improvements in overall endurance.
This silliness about Rupp not being able to break 4 until his senior year of college is ridiculous. It actually backs up my argument that Salazar is not that great. How can you not get a highschool 4:01 miler to break 4 by his 5th (or did he only do 4?) year of college??? Rupp always had plenty of speed. His problem was endurance.
I wonder why Ritz never improved his kick under Salazar...

The Bekele brothers asked Alberto if he would coach them. Not the other way around.
And Alberto said no.
