Title should say 69:34 for Deena's new WR*
and kgoucher?
Kara Goucher 71:39
1:11:40 for Kara.
Is that a positive result for her?

well hot and humid day - converts to a 2:30:47 per mcmillan. at a nasty dewpoint 65 that's not too bad. but not great either.
Not particularly.
Given all the injuries she has had in the last few years, Wetmore's plan is to bring her back slowly, and all the preparation is aimed at next year. They expected and aimed for something in the mid 71s, and the result is no surprise.
Does this result put Deena as a favorite to make the Olympic Marathon team? Possibly the favorite for 2nd after Shalane?
Wow
Gebremeskel in 1:02.35. Either preparing for a fall marathon or no EPO available.

Wow
well probably not, but jeez what a group of masters we have - Meb, Lagat, Deena - probably a few others I'm not thinking of right now.
And Kgoucher is getting close to 40 too

Gebremeskel, Chelanga and Medhin do not really have a good form for half and full marathon. I know some here will argue Paul Tergat had the same form, but I guess it is form and disposition then. Sileshi Sihine had the same problem and ended up not doing well in the half marathons and marathons in spite of high expectation. I therefore think Gebremeskel is better off sticking with the 5000m and 5k.

Becoming a masters runner in 2018 qualifies as being "close to 40?"
It's 35. Goucher is already a Master. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_world_records_in_masters_athletics
Can someone post top 20 men & women? The leaderboard does work remotely.

I wasn't trying to split hairs over the nomenclature.
On the other hand, I was trying to have a bit of fun with the person who seems to think that 36-years-old is actually close to 40! My daughter just graduated from high school a few months ago, so is she close to graduating from college?
Masters = 40+ for LDR.

Yes
Oiselle is pissed that Asics and a 40+ year old woman stole the headlines... and I thought Oiselle was targeting the 40+ year old mom crowd.

Your daughter is in a phase of development which will probably seem like a long four years.
Goucher and any other 36 year old athlete is hanging on for dear life against the ravages of time and those four years will fly by.
