What the hell is going on with the starter in Stockholm? Holding everyone too long. Screwing up starts of distance races? come on. This is not that hard.

C'mon dude. They aren't used to guns in Sweden. That is why all races need to be run in the USA, where we all conceal/carry and are prepared to return fire at any moment.

LOL.

The commentators are even bitchin about them. Just about every race has had a false start or athlete requested delay.
LOL!! She fell over backwards and fired the gun from sitting position in the 5000m. Re-watch it if you can!
Often officials promoted into high profile positions get stage fright. Being asked/pick to officiate National/WC/DL/OGs meets is a big thing.-same as an athlete qualifying for those meets it's a metric many officials use to--I'm looking for a word- justify all the long hours spent learning the job.
All the 'starting implement' technology at DL may be new to some.
I'll look at the replay but most meets use multiple starters.
The athletes should be chip timed. Then they can start when they like.
Is it too late to place a small side bet on Kip with the Chip?!?

That's funny! But think of the tactical possibilities! If for instance, one is allowed to start anytime within a certain time window, like 120 seconds for the 5000m. The sit-and-kickers would want to sit and wait. But a guy wanting to front-run would jump out ahead so he is not breaking the wind for them. But there might be too much confusion with the lapping going on.

Let me handle the rest of the DL starts. I can pull out a concealed weapon and hit a mark faster than they can say 'Swedish meatball'.

This is brilliant!
Where can we see video? Am interested to see how long the holds are...
A hold of 1.4 to 2 seconds is what the IAAF has used in various publications and guidelines for Starters.
But the over-riding idea of everyone getting a fair start ( when everyone has assumed their final starting position and are motionless ) should control how long the time is between the command set and the gun.

You'd have to watch a complete replay rather than youtube clips; suffice to say, it was atrocious.

And they should be allowed a running start!

chip-timed, but awards based on gun time.
About 2 seconds
That's a good example of the type of thing that happened repeatedly, multiple times yesterday.

Over 3 seconds in the first set position. Felt like an eternity watching.
