Pretty cool story. Doesn't seem like the Jason we know.
I'd say he's a rich boy who can't get out of his own way.
Story is exaggerated quite a bit. Just beacause you walked away from a full time slot machine job does not mean you walked away from millions.......same goes for most any other job.
Also, isn't it easy to make even the "worst" of people look good? What about his low self esteem problem and pornography problems? What about prostitution and immoral behavior? I will e-mail the writer of this article and send him some posts of Jason so that he can have a good "next article".
Thoner - let it go. I know that Jason pisses off a lot of folks on this board but, it isn't necessary to expose his foibles to the public at large. He's hurt himself enough, no need to pile on.
Honestly, I am strongly considering leaving this site myself due to the recent rash of trolls on this board. This latest Jason episode has brought out the worst in people and I am disgusted with the lack of maturity on all sides of this debacle. This has also led to wholesale bashing of every other topic / individual posted here. Let's Run was a fun and informative site. Now, it's just a haven for miscreants and foul mouthed college brats to get attention. If I want to read hate and filth, I'll check out some white supremecist or porn sites.
The headline (which was probably written by an editor rather than the reporter) is the part that is exaggerated. The article itself is a pretty standard "puff piece" that is intended to inspire, amuse, and make the reader feel good. Jason is, as we all know, a more complex person than the article suggests, and his recent posts show that he continues to struggle with large and important parts of his life.
From what I understand, the idea that Jason "walked away from millions" of dollars is based on the fact that an investment in IGT, the company that Jason "walked away from" in 1995, has returned over 600% for the last seven years, so an long-time employee with stock options or an employee stock plan could have profited very nicely. Back in 1995, however, no one knew that. In fact, IGT stock was performing rather badly back then.
Portland -
I share your sentiments. However, there has tyo be a way to make it work... to make the site what it was/is intended to be. So, I don't think leaving is necessarily the answer, but I hear ya'.
That article described Jason as thus:
Frye calls his former star obsessive-compulsive when it comes to training.
He is obsessive-compulsive--I know because I have that problem too and I take medication for it--that I got perscribed just recently.
Also, I decribed Jason, when he was complaining about his posts getting deleted, as a person relying too much on his right brain thinking. That very much sums up Jason as a person, along with the obsessive-compulsive disorder.
What happens--I think--is that our right brains are either more developed than it should be when compared to the left brain, or it is underdeveloped. In either case, he and I have a tendancy to always feed our right brains. Thus, Jason gives up his intellectual pursuit (left brain) for running (right brain). Why do we do this? Because our brains function better as a whole when we feed our right brain more than the left. At least, that is the case with me. Note, Jason complimented me on the thread I started about How to Get Chicks. He did so because his mind seeks out abstract and truthful answers to complicated matters in the same manner as my mind does.
To Portland Runner: who needs your whiney type on here anyway? I'll comment further about you on the thread started about you. If you have gotr something to offer this message board--and I am not saying that you don't--then how other people post shouldn't bother you a bit. Act like a man instead of a baby.
By the way, Jason, if you are in need of a coach or want to know what medication I take for the obsessive-compulsive disorder--let me know by emailing me. I can guarantee you will improve as a runner with me as a coach because I have a wide variety of ideas that I have not expressed here on this board. The meds I take have no side effect and work pretty good--I can sleep at night. If you had more right brain stimuli then you probably could do without the meds. I don't get enough right brain stimuli so I need them. email me at
Catman- we don't need people on this board like you. When you find a life outside of your drugs, let us know. You could only coach cockroaches. Stop believing in Santa Claus, catman. He doesn't exist.
Real baptist aren't atheist.
You obviously don't know True Baptists.
From the NY Times:
"Brother Harry Hardwick, the devout leader of Landover Baptists, was encarcerated this morning on accounts of animal cruelty at his upper east side apartment. Hardwick had reportedly been having sexual relations with a goat and other animals in his domestic home. Hardwick is known for his liberalist and radical views among religious communities--most evident on the web."
Wow, Jason's time is even more impressive knowing that he ran at Centre! :)
eek--perhaps a fatal blow there to Landover.
Jason said:
I kind of use the mathematics as a paint brush to try to build a better mouse trap, I guess.
Now how's that for a mixed metaphor?
Catman, The right side of the body is controlled by the left side of the brain and vice versa. If your right brain needs more of a workout just switch hands every now and then.
!#@$%@$#$#!#$#$!$%
You are all once again taking everything out of context.
Yes, I was very depressed over the last 2 weeks, hence my ranting and raving. Of course Wejo and Rojo handling the whole situation rather unprofessionally and in a most immature fashion did not help THEIR site at all.
My rants were completely cathartic, and if you fail to see that, then you do not know me well at all.
I have nothing but love and admiration for all of you, beating yourself on the roads on a daily basis. This glorious sport of ours is not about being the best in the world, or running some super-duper whoopdeedoo time, it is about the struggle of your spirit against your physical limitations, nothing more. I have friends, 4-5 hour marathon runners, who I admire as much, if not more than folks like Paul Tergat and Naoko Takahashi.
My best to you all in 2003......including the owners of this splendid little site.
Jason
Well, I guess you won't be needing me for a coach--but you do need to get your ass to church!
