He's going to take down Rudisha's record in the next two years.
1:40.5 no problem.

Maybe, but it probably gets nullified after a positive.
He can only take it in a race which Rudisha runs, Nijel is a great talent, but, he needs a target to run fast. I do not think he can get a rabbit that will take him fast enough to 600 or 700m unless it is Rudisha

It's quite likely that many of the top finishers from the 2012 Olympic Final will never actually better the times they ran there.
They were in a race being more or less rabbited from start to finish by the World Record Holder en route to another world record.
Rudisha is extremely unique among middle-distance runners in that he was able to run his best time leading from start to finish. Amos unfortunately, doesn't (at the moment) seem to share that quality.
Just so everyone remembers, Nijel Amos was so wiped out after that run that a stretcher was brought in to get him off the track.
Is this based on the same theory that apparently was supposed to see Kiprop suddenly run sub 3.26.00 when he hasn't even run sub 3.27.5 yet? I remember all the clowns on this m-board claiming it was only a matter of waiting until Monaco this year.
Amos does not have the running form to run under 1.41
He has a great turn of speed but don't forget he was also beaten this year in fast races (by none other than "3.25.xx man Kiprop") - I don't think many of you understand how difficult it is to break 1.42 let alone 1.41
Maybe that crooked piece of cr@p Jama can charge him up but unlikely he ever breaks 1.41

the others weren't so they obviously didn't give their best?
I agree. I honestly don't think Amos will see 1:41:73 again unless Rudisha does what he did in London.

no
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKEOjWEzVGsat 5'48 nijel clasps hands with Rudy, then picks up his flag & walks around with it draped over his shoulder

not inconceivable
he ran 1'42.45 with ~ 8m of extra distance
you do the maths...
Great runner, but not sure if he has the first lap speed to pull it off. He's a pack runner and a kicker. That's his forte. WR in the 8 needs to be a front runner like Rudisha.
Exactly. Rudisha is obviously past his peak. Amos will go down as the best 800m runner of all time,

Just like Coe who he ran the same time as, except on a legit track.
He will never go sub 1:42 again. It's already been two years. Wunderkinds who are good in their teenage years almost always decline by age 20.
"Fixing" his form will have no effect. His form is actually excellent. Alfred Kipketer does the same thing and it works.
i believe asbel is better 800 guy than nijel currently
he jogged around dead-fuuckin'-last until 200m, throwing away at least 1/2 - 3/4s there, ran about 6m extra, got very little/no drafting as seen from galloping wide in 1st sretch-drive & still whupped nijel in 1'43.3
asbel has gone too much for speed this year & his endurance has suffered
last year in monaco in perfect races maybe
~ 1'42-low/mid / 3'26-high
this monaco maybe
~ 1'41-low / 3'27-high
he appears to have trained wrong
the aim shouda been to do lot more weights to get good but not exceptional 800 improvement
( he's not interested in it )
& much bigger improvement in 1500 for say
~ 1'41-high/1'42-flat / 3'25-high
he seems to have taken easy way out & just trained for speed ( with consequence of loss of endurance ) & NO weights !
his current 800 maybe absolutely phenomenal, good for 3rd on all-time list but he's thrown away the blue riband event of 1500 which is the main event
How old is nijel!?
Does anyone have his 400 or 1500 PR? Or any info insites on hiz training?
yes, he seems like a "racer" vs a "time trialer"

If he was really a teenager when he ran 1.41.
Amos seems to have an excellent shot at the record.
He's either young in actual age or fairly new to the sport which means he should improve if he remains healthy and focused and is managed well.
600m rabbits at 1:14/1:15 are not difficult to get if he has to do it without Rudisha in the race.
He's aggressive enough to go for it and certainly has the 400m speed to go out hard with his 45.5 400m PR.
He just has to develop the strength where an opening 49 flat leaves him with enough reserves to push through to the finish.
Coe a pack runner and a kicker?! Think you have him mixed up with Steve Ovett. Yes Coe did win races not leading into the final 120m but was ALWAYS at his best setting his own pace out front - the original and probably still the greatest front running gangbuster ever.
You think Nijel Amos has excellent form huh? Is it the awkward shuffle at cruising speed or the arms and legs everywhere 'frog in blender' up the home straight that leads you to that conclusion?
Please, if you would like a crash course on excellent form youtube Wilson Kipketer, Coe or even David Rudisha.
Alfred Kipketer? Why is his name even bought up here.
He is a great runner but he still has not proved to be better than Mo Aman.

Olympic Silver, 1:41.73, and a couple of wins against Aman this year does prove that he is better.
