If you are counting race walking: Teresa Vaill was 41 when he made an Olympic team.

Colleen de Reuck won the 2004 Olympic Marathon Trials at the age of 40.

Imports have done quite well at our trials. Meb could possibly make it as a masters runner if he decided to try.
Meb's birthday is 5MAY75, so he has a very real shot of making the team as participating on the team as a Master. Making the team just before said threshold.

At Johnny Kelley's second Olympic Games he was nearly 41.

Kip Lagat is a master? How come we don't hear a lot about his masters records?

Bc Carl was making gobs of money, and Al wasn't.
Scott Baird got a bronze medal in curling at the 2006 Turin games at age 54.

Al made one more comeback attempt, in 1980 at age 43. He finished 4th.
I have no doubt that Kim Collins, who just ran 9.96 at age 38 will meet the US standard (presently 10.20) in 2016. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me too much if the new M40 WR in the 100m (it is certainly going down big time) will be sub-10.
